About this deal

We think the Wilkinson Sword lawn edger is particularly suited to tough clay and chalk soils, where you should be able to get precision results on your lawns and flowerbeds. There’s also a slightly cheaper version available with a carbon steel blade.

At 5.4 kg, LGT01A is lightweight. It has an ergonomic grip and an extra auxiliary handle for additional balance. The secondary handle is adjustable and hence, you can easily cut at different heights without any problem. Grass cutting sessions will not take much of your time because this garden maintenance tool has a maximum speed of 7500 rpm. The edging blade is adjustable (3 different heights), making it ideal for controlling the depth and angle of your lawn’s edge. Standard edgers are the most common types of manual lawn edgers you may find. It has a straightforward design, and the edger blade can be either half-moon shaped or V-shaped. You should choose V-shaped blades when you have lots of roots of grass and weeds to cut. Once you have a marking on the ground, place the edger blade on the marked line and firmly hold the shaft in your hand. Push your foot on the edger step and press it in the ground. You may have to wiggle it a bit to get it to dig deeper into the ground. For most DIY lawn edging tasks, I would recommend a 2-cycle gas engine because it is much easier to maintain with minimal oil changes since you add oil to the fuel.

You can then manually pull the grass or weed out from the dig-out ground and either plant it somewhere else or dispose of it in a compost pile. When Radius gave this edger the name “root slayer,” they weren’t kidding! The V-shape cuts through roots, where half-moon edgers tend to bounce off of them. You will not be disappointed!

The main types are corded, battery and petrol-powered trimmers. Petrol trimmers have more power and are much better for larger areas. Trimmers with cords will probably require an extension lead, so are only useful for small areas. They also aren’t as powerful. Although it is one of the best lawn edgers that are corded and electric-powered, I found this new design to be poorly designed around the handles, making it difficult to handle compared to the older model. The one main complaint is the handle, but with a lifetime warranty, you can always replace it if it breaks. It is also quiet compared to most of the gas-powered lawn edgers I’ve reviewed on this list. You do not need to mix the gas with oil or drag a cord around as you edge your lawn, pavements, and driveways. A wheel on the grass-trimmer head - this supports the weight of the grass trimmer and maintains a constant cutting height. The layer of the non-latex handle reduces the stress to the hand and wrist. The edger has a carbon steel blade with a fiberglass shaft. This makes it lightweight and easy to use. The blade is not very sharp, but it can easily cut through the grass. They're best suited to gardeners working away from the house for longer periods of time, for example in a meadow or on an allotment – all you need is a can of petrol and you can trim for hours.

Bike handles - wide handles that let you swing the grass trimmer in a wide arc are great for cutting large areas for longer periods of time.

While budget is an obvious consideration when buying outdoor tools for landscaping, other factors come into play and are worth considering as well. Using a manual lawn edger is a straightforward process. But knowing some proper techniques can make your job easier and you get a far cleaner cut. Manual – A manual lawn edger has a long wooden or metal shaft, usually with a T- or D-grip handle. In general, these edgers have a semi-circular head with a rounded bottom, although some look like angled spade heads. The bottom will have a sharp edge and there will be a small foothold at the top that you step on to apply pressure. These edgers can also go around trees or garden beds. There are variations among manufacturers, so you need to read the instructions related to the specific model.

You should always ensure that the blade is well maintained, whether you are planning to sharpen it or not. After use, clean the blade using a scouring pad or stiff brush, then store it. You can use an electric grinder like the bench grinder for sharpening purposes. If you are on a budget and looking for a great bench grinder, you can go for the WEN 4280. It is cheaper, has a work light, and is a variable speed grinder. However, if you are more concerned about the power and not the cost, Dewalt DW758 is the best choice. This grinder is powerful and has lesser vibrations compared to other electric grinders. Electric lawn edgers are great for a small lawn but can still produce a lot of power to make your work easy. The Blue Ridge electric grass trimmer comes with a 600W motor that works at 10, 000 RPM. With a cutting diameter of 12.5 inches and an edging wheel, the trimmer offers high-quality cutting results. Its automatic feed mechanism makes sure that you get the line advances without any input. Thanks to advances in technology, we now have stronger steel and innovative industrial designs that outperform edgers of the past in every way. Materials – If you’ve decided on a manual edger then look for one with a stainless or carbon steel blade for strength. Electric/gas edgers normally have blades made from hardened steel. Regular trims– The best edges are ones that are kept on top of and not allowed to get out of control. So, the more you do it, the more likely your edges will stay uniform and the easier they will be to tidy up, and the better you will get at it. The finish line Ensure that the grinder is in constant motion because an angle grinder removes metal very fast. Once you achieve your desired sharpness, stop grinding. Plus, maintenance is easy. You can rinse off your manual edger with a hose when you are finished. Different Types of Manual Edgers
