About this deal

The last mistake beginners make is to use a wide angle lens just because it’s cool, or funky, or different. Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM ELD SLD Aspherical Super Wide Angle Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Use a wide lens to take photos of people that show their environment (think the shop keeper in the example above), add a sense of fun or even humour, or tell a story. But know it will likely not be flattering to the subject. The Fujifilm X mount is compatible with Fujinon lenses specifically designed for Fujifilm X series cameras.

The XC lenses are considered consumer-level in quality, build and performance, while Fujinon XF refers to the semi-pro/pro lenses. The focal length of the Fuji 27mm f/2.8 is equivalent to 41mm on a full-frame camera, about the same angle of view as the human eye. This means you can accurately frame your shot before you’ve even lifted the camera to your eye, making it a great choice for street photographers. And now for the EOS R with Enhanced movie stabilisation – again a purely digital solution here, and as you saw on my clips, there’s a significant crop. As for the result here, at times it looks very smooth, but there’s also an undesirable judder as Ben walks. Your mileage will of course vary. An advantage of a fast wide-angle lens like the 16mm f/1.4 is your ability to shoot it at slower shutter speeds than a longer lens. Any slight movement when shooting handheld will in effect be masked by the width of the shot, and f/1.4 will let plenty of light in to help achieve a faster shutter speed. My choice would be the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR with its constant f/2.8 aperture, fast autofocus, and versatile focal length range, which makes it perfect for a wide range of event photography needs.Above: In terms of physical design, the RF 16 2.8 shares a lot in common with the RF 50 1.8, including the same 43mm filter thread, as well as no optical stabilisation and no weather sealing – in fact place them side by side and you’ll see they also share essentially the same barrel and controls. The good thing is that there are a variety of zoom lenses that can be set to 16mm. The bad thing is that for 16mm, you are mostly limited to zoom lenses. Unless you absolutely need the fastest glass you can buy (for low light shooting), I’d actually recommend investing in the 23mm f/2 WR Fujifilm wide angle lens and spending what you save on education. The close-focus distance of just 15cm (0.49ft) is also a welcome addition, allowing you to get up close and personal to your subject, while still including enough of the environment in the frame to tell the complete story.

Fujinon XF lenses feature all-metal construction, larger maximum apertures, aperture rings, and OIS toggle switches. The fact that it is a wide-angle lens means it's able to capture a lot at once as you can see in some of those nighttime pictures in a performance. That said, this is a very capable and fairly flexible lens. It can handle both wide-angle shots & night-time photography well with good results (although not the best) when taking portraits. There are many advantages to using the Canon RF 16mm F2. 8 STM for vlogging. For a start, its ultra-wide view makes it much easier to capture your surroundings when you’re shooting selfies. “I really love using a super-wide lens for vlogs, as it can record so much in one shot,” Chloe confirms. Why is 50mm lens so popular?

Image stabilisation on the 50-140mm f/2.8 also deserves a mention, with handheld shots at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15s shot at 140mm remaining very sharp. Shooting at such slow speeds would be extremely difficult without the inbuilt image stabilisation on this Fuji lens. The 55-200mm focal length when used on a Fuji X mount camera with a 1.52x crop factor shows the same angle of view as an 80-300mm lens on a 35mm camera – see this guide for more about focal length conversions. lenses are fast lenses with a fast maximum aperture. The most basic 50mm lenses are typically F1. 8 – a very wide aperture. This means they are great for low-light photography (e.g. low-light portraiture or indoor shooting) as they allow more light into the camera’s sensor. What is the best focal length for portraits?

Above: but when both lenses are closed to f5.6, I’d say the 14-35 is looking a little crisper if you have a high resolution body like the R5 to get the most out of it. Sharpness isn’t everything after all, especially in portraiture, where the 35mm f/1,4 is still very popular.Above: to illustrate that, I’ve superimposed a red frame where the outer edge represents the coverage from the 16mm.
