About this deal

Thanks to critical and public excitement generated by successive hit singles, popular MTV videos and exuberant live performances, U2 were on the cusp of international stardom. Where The Streets Have No Name" and "In God's Country" were made to be sequenced together, IGC takes the momentum built by WTSHNN to the next level. It contain a double page info sheet with lyrics on one side and a pic like a poster to the other side. The Joshua Tree is U2's fifth studio album and was released on 9 March 1987 (UK and US) / 10 Mar 1987 (Europe). Naturally, such emphasis on lyrical obscurity and musical minimalism meant that their early albums were more often detrimentally abstruse.

The Zeppelin-esque 'Bullet The Blue Sky' and the wickedly haunting 'Red Hill Mining Town' and the Joshua tree inspired 'In God's Country' make this album the most celebrated album of the eighties.Side 1 is incredible, and features three of my favourite U2 songs (Where The Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven't Found What I Am Looking For, and With Or Without You) and they integrate so well together, closing off with a more introspective Running To Stand Still. Admittedly, "The Joshua Tree" is the consummation of their biting political edge and art rock inclinations, but the brilliant melodies, tensions and rhythms showcased herein feel more exceptional and remarkable somehow, as if the corresponding cascading guitars and arena-ready choruses were the handiwork of another band entirely.

Indeed, the Americanization of their aesthetic may not have impressed their staid fanhood, but these cavernous, thought-provoking, moody and evocative compositions collectively exposed the masses to alternative music and its ideologies, which is what the group always sought to do. In spite of a significant leap forward in terms of realising their true potential, none of the albums they produced during this time would be a definite contender for "classic album" status. If you're as big a U2 fan as I and are looking to own one of the best pressings, consider yourself lucky to possess a clean copy of this one. This is packaged with The Joshua Tree – Photographs by The Edge, an 84-page hardcover book of never-before seen photography by The Edge, taken during the original Mojave Desert Joshua Tree shoot in 1986.

Sure, the album cemented U2 as the biggest band in the world featuring the massively played 'With Or Without You', 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' and 'Where the Streets Have No Name' but the rest of the album is worth uncovering. The inner is without credit "Additional Rhythm Guitar : Daniel Lanois" when compared to U2 - The Joshua Tree. As diverse, challenging and aggressive as their previous records, "The Joshua Tree" had the additional benefit of overt immediacy, lushness and grandiosity that gave each of the 11 songs contained within an undeniable and utterly rewarding cinematic quality.Contradictorily, as the desire to play bigger venues and broaden their audience took effect, their music became increasingly distinctive and melodic, not to mention commercially successful, thus alienating those who had invested in them primarily due to their political and social consciousness. U2 will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1987 album The Joshua Tree this June, with three new editions of the album, including a four-CD super deluxe edition box set. I bought the album in April '87 but have never really been able to get into it, I have tried and struggled over the years, the sound is just too "grown up"/overly serious in a middle of the road kind of way [pun intended]. Some copies came with a double-sided insert detailing other releases in the U2 catalogue, with The Joshua Tree included as the latest release (see pics).

It won the 1988 Grammy award for Album Of The Year and saw the band on the cover of Time magazine billed as 'Rock's Hottest Ticket. The Joshua Tree", released in 1987, was their most focused album yet, heavily influenced by spiritual imagery, Irish roots music and mythical America. In total 25 audio tracks are previously unreleased (including the live material) and the CDs will come housed in a large format 12-inch double gatefold folio.
