About this deal

After one week, the paints I had on the palette were still not dried out and there was little pooling of water. I did not thin the paint at all before adding it to the palette, either, so I ended up smearing a pretty thick glob of green across the palette. I paint a lot and when I’m in my hobby space, not only does something have to work, it has to add value to my painting session. But the palette is built to last and made in Europe, and the 2 foam pads and 15 reusable membranes will go a long way.

I highly advise using slightly less water than what the instructions say to use, because for the first 2 weeks or so, my paint wound up runny. I’m sure many people will be happy about more painting space, but the old Painter was already a bit too big for my compact painting station. Please note that this is not indefinitely I on my first use I found that a couple of mold spots formed after a week. The once-cleaned palette worked very well, but the paints dried a little sooner compared to completely new paper. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The locking system is a meaningful change from the somewhat unreliable magnetic attachment from the previous version. Easy to use, easy to clean and with the prospect of never having to replace the foam, this could be the wet palette we have been hankering for.

I've been painting for around a year now I think, I don't have much time to paint but I find it quite relaxing. I was given this Everlasting Wet Pallette v2 some time ago by Redgrass to review; it has taken me far too long to review it on this blog. While I’m not an advocate of all the detachable modular accessories that “stick” to the Everlasting wet palette (which was a theme in the original version), they do work and fit nicely together. We have informative and inspiring articles by Alfonso Giraldes, Joaquin Palacios, Arnau Lazaro, Dmitry Fesechko, Camelson, Francesco Farabi and others written by the up and coming generation of painters such as Kristian Simonsen, Chris Suhre, Paolo Di Poce and so many more besides. There is an elastic band to keep the palette together when travelling, there are 2x 50 sheets of hydration paper sheets and 2 sheets of hydration foam, and the “wavy”, to be used as a non-wet palette on the side.

Some of the colours seem to have dried up a bit, especially the reds at the bottom, but actually they can be re-activated by adding a little bit of water. It all started in september 2017, with one of the most successful Crowdfunding campaigns for the hobby: the Everlasting Wet Palette. Of course, the round bottom dry palette is a neat addition, but I much prefer ceramic watercolor palettes for working with thinner mediums, such as ink, or metallic paints. The membranes are the pieces of paper you put on top of the sponge itself, essentially the actual palette. The paper that forms the membrane naturally comes cut to size and certainly lets an adequate level of moisture to pass through to the paint, and after laying the paper down and chasing out the trapped air bubbles I found I was able to create a far smoother surface to work from than I was with other palettes. For those interested in the rest of the process: after bathing my Assault Intercessors in Nuln Oil, I beat the living daylights out of them first with a Waaagh! Together, you can keep paint on one side (the glossy side) from over thinning, while keeping the sheet moist throughout the working palette surface. He is known for bold colour schemes and sharp edge highlights, which he paints with typical German perfectionism (one of the reason he is such a notoriously slow painter). Well, a few weeks ago, the FH team utterly ruined painting and this joke for me forever by telling my the two thin coats philosophy is bogus and if I ever want to improve my painting, I had to start applying around half a dozen thin coats to my miniatures.

The wetness the palette maintains helps ensure your paints are thin and smooth, and apply without streaks, excessive build-up or blemishes. The elastic band didn't bother me, but there's no denying that a better seal on its own is a big improvement. The anti-spill pot holder and Wavy palette attach along the long or short edges of the bottom tray of the palette. To put the palette through its paces, I decided to prepare my first colour, Caliban Green, on the palette before I primed my Space Marines with Chaos Black. The drying time was getting a little faster every time and finally I decided to retire the palette (which coincided with me finishing the project I was working on).

We decided right from the off to keep fluff and adverts to a minimum, presenting in-depth articles, with quality writing and high-end design, that really helps you as a figure painter to develop your skill set along with your journey to becoming a more complete figure painter!
