IMO, the twist really took the wind out of FROM THE EMBERS sails, and it essentially sapped away any of the tension//angst that was at play. While it may not feature trucks, trains, or prison, or even really getting drunk, “Mama” is at the heart of the story. and, when the sun eventually shines again, it’s the right couple that evolve from the inferno into forever.

okay so, the big plot twist here is this, Jessica (or is it Jennifer) Eason's dead wife, and Robert, Bree's dead husband, were doing the nasty on the sly for YEARS. Having died in the car accident that killed Meg’s mom, Ripley sees it as her duty-after-death to watch over Meg and make sure she has a happy life. Roman is single, successful, and sexy - everything Simone is looking for to embark on a whirlwind summer romance with the potential to spark an everlasting love.

like why bother well I might HAVE to change that because then I wouldn't have a book with one of my least favorite tropes as a challenge pick book and that is the only reason why I didn't DNF this book.

I loved that this book and its events forced them to not only look at their own lives, but to look at what they were sharing together. And along the way it also allowed them to realize that the one person who they never thought would mean anything, just might mean everything. Too many twists, too much drama, and a troupe I don't love, but it's Aly Martinez so you know I had to read it.This book allowed them both to peel back the layers and the fronts and the sheilds, and to just become who they really were.
