About this deal

Of course, going back to Trump, and his war with the media, this book is obviously inspired by trying to explain how a brash, arrogant and unpleasant reality television star, was seriously a candidate for the most prominent, political post in his country.

It’s not that he isn’t aware that less than a mile from his home people live very different lives—more crime, more poverty and certainly a different skin color. Perhaps this is just teeing up Sopel's next book, which seems to be a more detailed review of life in Trump's America, and is due out later in 2019.

Jon Sopel’s book is a 90% state -of - the - nation USA in which the key themes; Race, God, Guns, are intelligently observed, but were written before the Trump phenomenon, and do not reference the specifics of Trumpism.

Trump was clearly agitated by the fact that he was about to be asked a question by a reporter from the BBC, stating ‘here’s another beauty’ and then later, after Sopel had asked his question, chillingly ‘I know who you are’. Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City once had to contemplate leaving her apartment in Manhattan and moving to Hoboken and the idea of living in Hoboken nearly caused her an emotional breakdown.Quite an interesting read that really opened my eyes at just how different the culture across the pond actually is. Interesting analysis of the American political landscape by one of the BBC's most eminent journalists, who has himself been at the end of 'fake news' jibes by the current POTUS. A super interesting look at the pre and post-election Trump era in the US - it is informative, funny, scary and depressing all at once.

Sopel also highlights the mixture of anger and anxiety that suffuses the 21st century American psyche and includes a chapter on the post-truth world where the electorate prefers to be “informed” by fake news on Facebook rather than listen to educated and reasonably impartial press professionals such as Sopel. The picture of the book is correct and matches my ISBN, but the title does not match the ISBN (nor the picture). A dangerous chapter to comment on, but it amuses me that he doesn't understand the term person of colour. First they bring to the stage Bill Clinton, who looks like a harmless redneck, looking refuge in sexual quirks.I don’t know who the hell he hangs out with, but it’s very possible he discovered the one group of overly religious teetotalers in the neighborhood.

In actual fact, the French or Germans are probably a lot closer to the British mindset than the Americans; it’s just that most people can’t understand them when they are speaking their native tongue. The Jewish leaders accepted the actor’s apology and announced that Brando is now free to work again. Some are no real surprises if the reader is familiar with American culture already, but some are stark reminders of what is Important to Americans, which might seem strange to us Brits. Sopel lifts the lid on the powerful lobbying group, the National Rifle Association and their aggressive stance on keeping things the way they are.
