About this deal

With an all-metal housing and a corrosion-free finish, the DynaCaster is truly built to last. Complete with an integrated parallel stand adapter and XLR connector, the ultra-low profile design will complement any modern studio environment, whether professional or home!

Two recessed slide switches at the bottom of the mic offer three options each. The first provides flat, cut and boost settings for the bass, while the second has one flat setting and two degrees of HF boost — the combination providing six distinct sonic flavours. So who’s the target audience for the DynaCaster then? Well, if you’re a live streamer or podcaster, then this should be a great mic for you. Equally, it should be home in any studio environment where you’d look to use a high-quality dynamic microphone. For podcast‑style recording, I found that I needed to have the gain control on my interface turned most of the way up when using the DCM3, but the result was still perfectly clean. Using the DCM6 with the Dynamite boost switched in meant I needed much less preamp gain, but in other respects the sonic outcome was identical. A clear benefit of the active circuity is that budget preamps don’t have to be pushed hard to get the required gain, and you can also record quiet instruments and other sounds that are a little further away without struggling for level. The dual‑stage pop filter (foam and wire basket) is also very effective. So, why should this new mic potentially divert your attention from mics like the Shure SM7b? Let’s take a dive into the specs and design features.

With a wide swivel range, the DynaCaster’s clever side-by-side stand mount and gold-plated XLR connector have been tested to validate compatibility across a wide variety of microphone stands and even "that desk boom." The DynaCaster, with its all-metal housing and premium finish, is heavily shielded from any electrical interference for years of demanding use.

The DynaCaster marks the first time you’ll have seen a dynamic, studio focussed mic from the brand. Clearly, sE has spotted the boom in broadcast-style dynamic mics, and decided to get in on the action!

Make no mistake, even in passive mode the DynaCaster is a fantastic dynamic mic that’s more than capable of giving any high-end competition a run for its money. Its frequency response curve is almost flat, albeit slightly boosted, from 200Hz right up to 10kHz, with a gentle low-end roll-off and more pronounced high-end roll-off. Priced at around 50 percent more than its passive sibling, but still very affordable, the DCM6 has a seemingly identical technical specification to the DCM3 until we come to sensitivity, which jumps from ‑52dBV to ‑22dBV when the active preamp is switched in. This requires 48V phantom power and draws just over 3mA. If the Dynamite button is pressed in with no phantom power applied, there is no output from the mic. In my tests, the DCM6 in passive mode sounds exactly the same as the DCM3 model.
