About this deal

Rules for playing Boarding Action games of Warhammer 40,000 can be found in the Arks of Omen: Abaddon supplement. Additional rules for Leagues of Votann Boarding Patrols can be found in Arks of Omen: The Lion . Over at Warhammer Community, our coverage of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 continues with the reveal of a brand new Tyranid unit and close examinations of how characters and weapons work in the new system. All models are supplied with their appropriate bases. These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Colour paints. Set Overwatch: This can be performed in the Movement Phase, and allows the unit performing it to fire Overwatch against enemy units.

Boarding Patrol: Leagues of Votann provides a balanced force of technologically advanced warriors, ideally suited to seizing resources and victory in games of Warhammer 40,000 – especially in the dense and deadly Boarding Action missions detailed in the Arks of Omen series – and will save you money compared to buying the kits separately. However, if you’re already playing 40K, and you perhaps also have the correct scenery, the game is really easy to get into. What’s so interesting about this detachment is the presence of zeroes in the list above: You don’t have to bring an HQ, or even any Troops! This opens up the possibility of all sorts of fun, thematic lists (the author of this article is currently working on an all-Einhyr list for the Leagues of Votann with an added Thunderkyn unit which he would otherwise never even have bought for his 40K army, for example), and it keeps your model count relatively low. Additionally, when a Boarding Actions game begins, any units with 10 models must be split into two 5-man squads, which are then treated as two separate units. It remains to be seen how much of a breath of fresh air the game mode will actually be when all factions have had all their special rules released – will it become almost as complicated as playing regular 40K? But until them, Boarding Actions is a refreshingly streamlined, faster way of playing 40K that fits much better into the casual dinner table games that most of us actually have time for than the 2000 points way of playing 40K that’s dominating tournaments and matched play in general. This box can be used to assemble a variety of units – the recommended build for Boarding Action games is five Einhyr Hearthguard, ten Hearthkyn Warriors, and either an Einhyr Champion or five Cthonian Beserks.Dice and Tape Measure: Just like regular 40K, Boarding Actions uses 6-sided dice and a tape measure in inches to play the game.

Warhammer 40,000 is a tabletop wargame where big armies of miniatures fight each other on the grim battlefields of the far future. In the usual version of the rules, you’ll field an army of tanks, infantry, artillery, heroes and perhaps even monsters to simulate armies clashing. If you want to play smaller encounters, you have the option of playing the skirmish game Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, where each player only has around 10 models on the battlefield, simulating special forces fighting behind enemy lines. This novel takes the Lion on a quest through the shadowed paths between stars to gather loyal knights to his side once more, though many have long since been hunted as members of the Fallen. Unsure of who to trust, and without the aid of his Legion, his father, and his home, the Lion will need to find his place in a galaxy even less forgiving than the one he left.

This is a big one that mostly affects magna-rails and ion cannons, which had additional effects which trigger on an unmodified 6 to wound. Previously, scoring an auto-wound with Eye of the Ancestors would cause the wound to count as though it had been generated via an unmodified 6, triggering the extra effects on those guns. That’s no longer the case, and it makes it much more difficult to score spillover damage with a magna rail – in fact, these effects will be at odds with Judgement tokens in that the more you have on a target, the less likely you are to generate 6s to wound. That said, I don't want to go too deep on the stats of each unit with 10th edition so close at hand. It wouldn't be very useful. So I'll just give you an overall impression of what they are and what they're good at. Uthar The Destined I think this is a really tough call and honestly, I’m not sure how I’d want to really mix-max everything at this point. Without having seen any real games or tournament data on the army we’re all going in based on the Dataslates here. That said, if we’re starting a new army I’d want to keep my options open. I also am not the type of person who only collects the “power units” and that’s it. So, if this was my army, I’d split the difference and get one unit of each the Hearthguard (225 points + wargear) and Thunderkyn (120 points + wargear). And as far as character support I’d go with the Grminyr (90 points).
