About this deal

Stonewielder, Chapter 1, US HC p.22 - Korelri year 4156 was the 11th year of the occupation. Korelri year 4178 was equivalent to 1167 BS Anti-Climax: Inside the dying Azath House lie a band of Toblakai gods as well as Silchas Ruin, a Tiste Andii Ascendant, and the entire book builds up to an epic showdown between them upon their escape. What happens instead is that the Toblakai face off against Badass Abnormal Iron Bars in The Last Dance and Silchas Ruin escapes Just in Time to take them down in a brief Curb-Stomp Battle that isn't even described.

To the south, the rapacious kingdom of Lether, eager to fulfil its long-prophesied role as an empire reborn, has enslaved its less-civilised neighbours. All, that is, save the Tiste Edur. Destiny has decreed that they too must fall. And yet the impending struggle between these two peoples is but a pale reflection of a more primal conflict. Ancient forces are gathering, and with them rides the still-raw wound of an old betrayal and a craving for revenge… Interesting that both an Edur and a Letherii would see a white crow as an ill omen. More on that to come. I will say we’ve seen a white flying creature already. Nested Ownership: Tehol Beddict's true and far reaching financial influence is shown when the dredging rights to the city's canals are discussed. Tehol tries to divert attention away from himself by saying the dredging rights are already owned by a merchant named Biri, but Shand points out that Tehol in turn owns Biri, so would he kindly stop playing a beggar, please? Calling Your Bathroom Breaks: The two Kenryll'ah demon princes are quite fond of both announcing they have to pee and talking about it to coordinate the act.Killanthir, Tiste Andii, 3rd High Mage of the 6th Cohort under the ancient command of Silchas Ruin [14] The Guardian, an entity of unspecified origin which is set up by Mael, Elder God of the Sea, to guard the names of long forgotten gods, is basically a suit of armor that walks around on the sea bottom and challenges any intruders. The short-tailed K'Chain Nah'ruk turn on the Matrons. The Matrons may have created the rent at Morn in an attempt to defend themselves. [22] [23] Mayen? I don’t like her. I really don’t. That flashing of her ankles at a man who isn’t her betrothed? Not cool.

House of Chains, Chapter 5, US SFBC p.250, In 1164, Fiddler said the Seti lands had been pacified for 60 years Midnight Tides is the fifth book of ten in Malazan Book of the Fallen, and the first in the Letherii arc. It was released in 2004, and is preceded by House of Chains. Events are ostensibly narrated by Trull Sengar, a character from the last book — and for its use of And Now for Someone Completely Different, as it introduces the last of the three major arcs. Despite this, it does not employ significant use of Lost in Medias Res— one of the hallmarks of the series — as it largely follows a more traditional storytelling structure than usual, and, as such, is a somewhat different read from the rest of the series.

Have to confess, the storyline of which I have least interest in this novel is probably Udinaas and Feather Witch. There is always something going on, but, because a whole heap of it takes place in dream realms or through tile castings, I find myself confused as to what is actually happening! Year(+/- 1) of Dujek Onearm's birth according to a reference in Gardens of the Moon. [73] Go to Talk:Timeline for discussion of possible timeline inconsistency. Rape as Drama: Seren Pedac is raped in Trate just before it falls to the Edur, bringing a drastic change to the direction of her character arc. Return of the Crimson Guard, Book 1 Chapter 1, UK PB p.12, Ogilvy was recruited in the Second Induction, a decade before Kyle's recruitment in Return of the Crimson Guard

Midnight Tides was the most effortless of the Malazan books for Erikson to write. The book "wrote itself, it just came out." [4]

I’m going to give a summary/quoting here of Feather Witch’s reading with little discussion as it offers up some ripe commentary potential as well as some of it perhaps needing to be wary of spoilers. But have at it in the comments if you want! We should also recall point of view here—this is not necessarily “truth”—it is a belief system after all.

Approximate year that the River Catlin reroutes itself away from Saltoan. The city attempts to recapture river traffic by constructing Korselan's Canal, but is unable to halt its inevitable decline. [58]

Trull’s entry into his home shows us a bit more about the Edur, including that they have lost some arts/skills; they are a somewhat diminished people in some ways. Start of the Tiste Edur War of Unification that will ultimately bring together the five tribes under Hannan Mosag's leadership [94] His brother Tehol was one of the richest people in Lether, his financial genius propelling him to a position where he owned a quarter of the Letherii economy, but he became disgusted with the exploitative nature of the system, and collapsed his business empire on purpose, choosing a life of poverty with Bugg. This was actually a test case for bringing down the entire Letherii economy, which he begins to plot at the start of the book. Shavankrats, identical triplet brothers, assigned by Brys Beddict to be bodyguards to his brother Tehol Beddict (First mentioned) [18] (First appearance) [23] I absolutely love that image/concept of Hannan’s shadow. Once again, something I would love to see in CGI on the big screen.
