About this deal

but then I got less and less sympathy for the boy because of some of his actions (both involve hitting someone/thing with sticks) and by the end I wasn't as moved by his story as I expected. Paul Theroux had written several travel/train books, including The Great Railway Bazaar, before he decided to learn more about Great Britain, the country in which he had been living for the past 10 years. Theroux, who was born in America, had good fish-out-of-water stories about living and traveling in England, but for some reason it was a challenge for me to finish this book.

Nothing happens to the main character; he doesn't understand what the guy was working up to but was still creeped out. It wasn't written in a particularly humourous way, just a bland unimpressive opinion piece that filled a book.Outside the carriage, he meets an old man who is a close relative of the family (grandfather), who explains to Harry that the family is no longer alive. In a quiet way the British were hopeful, and because in the cycle of ruin and renewal there had been so much ruin, they were glad to be still holding on -- that was the national mood -- but they were hard put to explain their survival. Tom" by Michelle Magorian, another WW II novel for young readers, I could give this one only 4 stars.

But his keen eye sees beyond the war hysteria to realize that Britain’s problem in 1982 was unemployed people and closed mines, factories, and businesses. Theroux must have known that these holiday camps are a sick joke throughout the rest of the country, catering to a small section of the dwindling working class and its teen-age children.

But as he and his dog companion journey along the northern English coast, there is never enough distance between them and the terrible war. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

Sadly, I chose badly as this is a book where I kept on wondering why he bothered to complete what seemed to be even for him a thankless and depressing endeavour. To prepare for the book, he decided to follow the coastline around Britain traveling clockwise, and to include Norther Ireland. Next second, he had broken from their hands, and was running up another garden path like a terrified rabbit.
