OK, I am positive that if my uncle did not gift me this novel through the post, I would have surely not read it. Any book about James Bond as a child would not have placed an interesting thought in my mind. o APA citation: Higgson, H. & Walker, K. (2008). Silverfin: A James Bond adventure. During a scene at a circus the announcer presents "The Mighty Donovan". "The Mighty O'Donovan" is Donovan "Red" Grant's father, referenced in From Russia, with Love. As an avid movie watcher, I enjoyed this spectacular graphic novel! Since I have watched almost every 007 movie, I was definitely not let down. Not only did the author successfully integrate the Bond we know and love, but he was also able to develop a new and interesting plot. I loved it when James encountered the biggest danger of all but was soon saved by the most unexpected hero of them all. Plus, Red constantly provided a witty sense of humor, a characteristic that made him my favorite character. Even though the main plot of the story was intriguing, the several side-plots (e.g.. the Hellebore Cup, a race that took up much of Part I) were hard to follow and in the end, unnecessary. Despite the confusing subplots, I still highly recommend Silverfin to anyone who enjoys graphic novels, adventure-filled books, or just loves James Bond (like I do). The Bond girl in this book is Wilder Lawless, a girl who owns a horse called Martini. This girl helps James and 'Red' Kelly (named on account of his red hair) figure out why Kelly's cousin was killed and she helps them to defeat Lord Hellebore. In this book James learns to drive, taught by his Uncle Max, who, while he is away at Lord Hellebore's castle sadly dies. His Aunt Charmain who thinks James and Kelly are away on a camping trip tells James this as he wakes up from his coma. This book is a very fun adventure with a lot of thrill and suspense. I am not a big reader but this book was really fun to read because it has so many interesting pictures that correlate with the story very well. This book is about a young James Bond, who is spending his time in Scotland and Eaton College. While he is in Scotland, he ends up meeting his Uncle who is a spy. Also near the time he meets his uncle, he meets another main character that is the school bully. The bully George competes with James and they grow into enemies very fast. George's dad (Lord Hellebore) has plans to rule the world with his friend who is an evil genius scientist. James works hard against Hellebore and pushes towards the saving of the world. This is a great book and I love how detailed and fun the pictures are that really connect you to the story. On Loch SilverFin in Scotland, a bad man lives in a castle with his son. James Bond and his new friend Red Kelly go to the castle. They must find Red's missing cousin, Alfie. But what do they find in the castle? Do they find Alfie, or is it too late? Silverfin is a young adult spy novel by Charlie Higson based on Ian Fleming's famous character James Bond. The book, which follows James Bond as a teenager in the 1930s, inspired a series of graphic novel adaptations, video games, and a travel guide. Silverfin, the first book in the series, is followed by Blood Fever, Double or Die, Hurricane Gold, and By Royal Command. There are also two supplementary books: a travel guide, The Young Bond Rough Guide to London, and Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier, essentially a guidebook to the world of Young Bond. A hellebore is a poisonous plant often thought to resemble a rose, making a suitable name for the handsome but evil Lord Hellebore.

SilverFin 's success spawned a mobile game published by PlayerOne on January 5, 2006 in conjunction with the release of the second novel in the Young Bond series, Blood Fever. The game features three locations, 15 levels, and a variety of enemies that the player must avoid. So... since the novel kept me on the couch to the end, (And the end was surprisingly good) I'll have to give it four stars, since I don't give fives. Although , it was extremely hard to believe they would have had modern, science facilities in Adolf Hitler's time so I'd have to mark it down to three stars. Actually, since the first half of the book was utterly boring, I would have to slice off a star again. So my final and last score for this novel is a two out of five, yes two stars. I haven't read a lot of graphic novels, certainly no expert in artistic creativity, but I must admit that i really enjoyed this one. It made a difference reading a young James bond story rather than a manga style one with rape, murder and return from the dead vengeance. In the second section of the book, James travels to Scotland on spring break to visit his Aunt Charmian and Uncle Max, who is dying of cancer. During this visit, the cause of James's parents’ deaths is revealed, and James learns more about his uncle's history as a spy during World War I. James also meets a few friends, including an older boy, Red, and a love interest, Wilder Lawless. James and Red travel to the nearby Hellebore estate, which includes Loch Silverfin. At the estate, the two meet Mike Moran, a Pinkerton detective investigating Lord Hellebore at the request of his wife, who suspects Hellebore of having killed his own brother, Algar, because he was having an affair with Lady Hellebore. The boys find Detective Moran dead in Loch Silverfin, with his body mostly eaten by the carnivorous eels. Bond's Aunt Charmian drives an identical Bentley to one Bond drives in Casino Royale and in subsequent books. Bond also inherits his uncle's 1.5 liter Bamford & Martin Sidevalve Short Chassis Tourer. Bamford & Martin later became Aston Martin.

James Bond is, without doubt, the daddy of all literary spies. His name is synonymous with intrigue and adventure, action and old-fashioned derring-do. So Silverfin, the first in a series of Charlie Higson’s fully authorised prequels to the most famous of all British Secret Service agents, has mightily big boots to fill. Fortunately, Higson is a genuine Bond aficionado who has remained true to the style of Ian Fleming’s creation, and his legend, to create an authentic story featuring a teenage Bond that should not disappoint other equally appreciative fans. o Selection process: The Best, Notable, and Recommended 2008. They destroy the other vehicles and break through the gates to find that they are being followed by Hellebore and his men. They abandon the lorry on a farm and Red hides while James runs away toward town before turning toward the one place Hellebore wouldn't look: the castle. However, the Laird catches up and slashes James' face with a horse crop. James spits in his eye before Wilder rides in on Martini to rescue him. They ride into the forest surrounding the estate, where George finds them and despite James' misgivings, proceeds to help them destroy his father's laboratory.

Higson: "The smell and noise and confusion of a hallway full of schoolboys can be quite awful at twenty past seven in the morning." Silverfin, a Level 1 Reader, is A1 in the CEFR framework. Short sentences contain a maximum of two clauses, introducing the past simple tense and some simple modals, adverbs and gerunds. Illustrations support the text throughout, and many titles at this level are graphic novels. As a graphic novel I find this an excellent drawn comic, visually stunning on occasion. The story is of course a little less complete but does catch the essence of Higsons novel. The only fault I can find in the comic and story is that James Bond is running with a certain number during the sporting event that is way to obvious and felt a bit too much. But each his/her own. That said Higson did write some excellent books and his last one actually featured james Bond 007 in a albeit short chapter. Bond's Aunt Charmain drives an identical Bentley to one Bond drives in Casino Royale and in subsequent books. Bond also inherits his Uncles 1.5 liter Bamford & Martin Sidevalue Short Chassis Tourer. Blood in the Water - Young Bond

(hehe jadi curhat) Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - Pan’s Labyrinth was amazing. Special effects and fantasy are used for more than just pretty pictures. Because Fleming never explicitly said when James Bond was born, Ian Fleming Publications and Charlie Higson chose the year 1920 as his birth year. SilverFin takes place in 1933.THe story is very easy to follow, bully at school has a evil dad, with a slightly more evil mad scientist and a nefarious plot to rule the world. Bond arrives, gets the girl and saves the world but doesn't have a martini, shaken but not stirred. While speaking to his running coach, Mr. Merriot, James is informed of the upcoming Hellebore triple cup race, and agrees to enter. However, while training for the swimming portion of the race in the icy Thames, George Hellebore comes to torment him. He forced Bond into an underwater race with a boy from the school brass band, ensuring James' loss. When next he speaks with Merriot, James voices concerns about the rumor that the competition is rigged, which Merriot laughs at and claims that it is, as it is paid for by Hellebore's father, in Hellebore's name, and the competitions were in each of Hellebore's strongest sports. Merriot, however, reveals that he believes James could win.
