With an oily body, smoke and a hint of boiled sweets, and a long spiced-pepper finish, it’s one for keeping you warm at night. It makes me crave a salty ocean, sea spray, and the rugged nature of the terroir of the land it comes from.
This tasting was done June 12th of 2013 along side Talisker 10yo and Johnnie Walker Green 15yo to see what of Coal Ila and Talisker I could find in the JW Green. tobacco Finish:all the foregoing and the lingering taste of a damp poplar campfire which smoldered on and on. Hopefully, there won’t be much variations, as this lineup consists of two 12 year olds and an 11 year old.
This peated malt is a great combination of great smoky and peaty notes mixed together with fresh and light fruity notes. Bruichladdich Rocks, for example, uses peated water but does not use peat-smoke for drying the barley. About: Pronounced 'Cull-Eela', the distillery is situated on the North-Eastern shores of Islay with magnificent views across the Sound of Islay to the spectacular Paps of Jura.
The distillery belongs to Diageo, and in addition to being sold as a single malt is used heavily in blends such as Johnnie Walker and Black Bottle.
