I love the way this book incorporates each fundamental point of technique within a very memorable/ traditional or collectively known rhyming song. Included in book 1: pieces by Vivaldi, Mozart and Saint-Saëns, Scottish, Chinese and Ukrainian folk tunes, music by Saint-Georges and Ignatius Sancho, and ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’. The book has been revised since my eldest son started to learn, and the first few pages concentrate on getting a feel for musicality and rhythm, learning the parts of the violin, etc before staves, crotchets, quavers etc are introduced, which can sometimes be hard for a younger child to grasp.Carefully paced to suit young learners, it supports players through the important early stages, step by step - from how to hold your instrument and bow through basic notation to exciting pieces in a range of styles. This book uses throughout, action/rhythm words in general teaching use (but essential to the Dalcroze method), what a shame this book's system fails with the minim!
