About this deal

There is much more detail than in a standard guide book, but it is entertainingly written, and covers everything from architecture, immigration and cultural influences to movies and criminals. Merchandise schmerchandise (gift wrapped or not) – but giving someone an experience, now that’s special.

The book can be enjoyed in its own right or in conjunction with the first two volumes, which are now established bestsellers. This cool, lesser-known section of the Capital Ring offers a mix of urban and green spaces, taking walkers through interesting residential streets, commons, and notable landmarks. Each month Richard compiles a list of 10 free and unusual things that you can do in London during the month, and over the months ahead. Each stage of the walk is described, from where to turn, which road to take and even exactly what buildings and things to look at to get the most out of the walk. There are some maps also showing the walk with some red arrows showing the direction of the walk on top of the standard A-Z London map of the area. From then on, we begin to see London through fresh eyes, and the mundaneness of the familiar is soon playing second fiddle to the wonderment of genuine discovery. Follow the Thames Path, enjoying open views of the Thames and passing by Hampton Court Park and Golf Course.

And, best of all, by making use of our collection of step by step secret London walks, you'll even be able to spend a morning, an afternoon, or even a whole day, discovering the curious wonders with which London abounds and digging out these golden nuggets of the past. I bought this set used but in great condition so 4 stars for accuracy but 5 stars for value for money. In some cases the steps explained about the walk focused only on the walk itself, so many steps on where to go and which way to turn that I wondered if some of the places of interest might pass me by as surely there is more to know about these places than just the few mentioned. Following any of the 12 walks featured in each book will allow the user to walk in the footsteps of authors and statesmen, murderers and revolutionaries.I like these intros to the walks as there’s a lot of interesting information about the history of the area and why the walk is of interest to take.

Accompanied by guided walking instructions and written by a local expert, A-Z London Hidden Walks is the perfect way to explore the city in a new light. I have compiled this "Uncovering Secret London" resource with the avowed intent of introducing visitors and Londoners alike to the unusual, the offbeat and the downright bizarre sites, and sights that London has to offer. With this book in hand, readers can find the plaque to a Suffragette who was a master of Jui-Jitsu, see the site of London's first railway murder and follow the bank of the Lea River to arrive amid the modernity of the Olympic Park. Having been walking around London since the Blitz, I have over the years collected many “Walking Guides” but this 3 Volume guide is one of the best . In the case of the former, they might have passed the entrances to the alleyways, passage, and courts on a regular basis and not bothered to venture into them. Hidden London walk was led by Simon, who shared a lot of history and the less common sites in the City of London. Walk across the footbridge at Limehouse Basin, around Limehouse Marina, and take the twisted paths that take you straight to the Thames!
