About this deal

Belgarath retained a soft spot for his interminable line of "grandsons", the Rivan line, often spending time with them when they were young, enjoying such activities as fishing or story-telling. I really liked it because it showed where the main characters had come from and what their importance was in the series (just incase you didn't already figure it out). However, Belgarath was the far more experienced of the two, and so Garion was often happy to let his grandfather do it.

She took the form of a human and built a farmhouse in the Vale and Belgarath stumbled upon it, finding out her name was Poledra. His ceaseless devotion was foredoomed to cost him that which he held most dear--even as his loyal service would extend through echoing centuries of loss, of struggle, and of ultimate triumph. On February 28, 2007, David Eddings' wife, Leigh Eddings (born Judith Leigh Schall), died following a series of strokes.Only Belgarath can tell of those near forgotten times when Gods still walked the land: he is the Ancient One, the Old Wolf, his God Aldur’s first and most favoured disciple. This is possibly also why Beldaran at least was slightly short changed as a character though to what extent this was a lack of attention and to what extent simply the recognition that Polgara would be closer to her twin sister than her mostly absent father I don’t know.

Belgarath was stated by many to be the greatest sorcerer ever to have lived, having lived 7,000 years as well as being known and feared across the world. I'm almost afraid to pick up the next companion book, Polgara, for fear that it will frustrate me even more when it comes to a character I love even above Belgarath. And that's charming for about a minute, and then you realize that the narrator is really kind of a self-satisfied asshole.I can easily imagine him being able to do this as this book only touches on so many little stories without elaborating a great deal. The first person also fully bring Belgarath’s voice to life, and there’s quite a dry undercurrent to it that I enjoyed. Beldin's commentary to Belgarath: "Did you know that an ordinary priest is powerless once he gets past the boundaries of his own country?
