About this deal

The Kaweco Ebonit Sport is made from ebonite, one of the most popular materials for making fountain pens in the pre-plastic days of the early 20th century. Ebonite is a type of natural rubber, and it has a warm, luxurious feel in the hand unlike any other material. It looks really good. On your last photo it looks quite shiny. Is there some sort of lacquer on the push knob? The Collection Sport in Iguana Blue features a teal aluminum body and gold-colored nib and accents. My first impression was that your poor ink flow was due to machining oils, I would have started by that first. Other than that, I agree that it is a substantial yet comfortable pen and it has a great design (IMHO much better than its clones). Mine has aged nicely, and I suspect it will still evolve its patina. That's another plus for me, the organic surface and that it is raw, not varnished as the clones gives -again IMHO- a distinctive feeling. I hope you like the patina yours may develop, but if you don't, you can always polish it. The Brass Sport closely follows an original 1935 octagonal design. Super compact design, just 106mm long and 14mm in diameter.

Kaweco BRASS SPORT Gel/Ballpoint Pen I Pen Including 0.7 mm

Limited edition Kaweco Bronze Sport Pens and Pencils will darken and develop unique patinas over time. Available as ballpoint pens, fountain pens, gel pens, and mechanical pencils, these writing instruments are weighty yet well-balanced, perfect for those who prefer more substantial tools. Finally, I smoothened the writing surface of the nib on increasing fine polishing pads (starting at 8000 then 10k and finally 12k).The Toyama Teal has a dark blue body with an iridescent finish. It’s inspired by the coastline of Toyama, Japan, where bioluminescent squid gather during spring nights and illuminate the water.

The pen as expected feels very different from my other pens. While being compact it feels very substantial and robust. After having investigated the options I could find for a travel pen, I decided that a Kaweco brass Sport with “M”-nib would likely be the right choice for me. I did not have the opportunity to physically try any of the pens in question and had therefore to rely on what I could find online. Kaweco makes special cases and pouches that perfectly fit Sport pens and pencils. They’re ideal for carrying your pens around and protecting them from scratches. Kaweco’s Brass Sport ballpoint pen is immediately recognizable with its characteristic octagonal shape, which was first introduced in 1935. It has the kind of charm that never goes out of style. The chunky yet elegant design is also practical, as the octagonal cross-section lets the pen sit flat on a table without rolling away. I knew the Kaweco would be much heavier than the other pens I have and was curious how I would like that. Also, I had noticed that several users/reviewers of the Kaweco Sport series pen had mentioned that the nibs are a bit hit or miss, some a great out of the box, others not so much. As the nibs are cheap and easily replaceable, I was willing to risk to get a bad one. It's a great pen, good weight, I find it nicer in the hand than the plastic Kaweco. I definitely feel it's worth the extra pennies. I know that this is a bit of a zombie post, but I would recommend adding something about how different cleaning materials might react with different pen materials (ammonia, isopropol alcohol, etc).
