About this deal

This is definitely one just for mystery-thriller fans. (I also wouldn’t recommend buying it for any young readers as it does have more “adult” aspects of it’s plot.) I read it over one weekend and for whatever flaws it has, I did enjoy the mystery. There’s enough cleverness in there that you’ll likely feel it was worth the time. Let’s first start with Jules. Why was she so eager to marry Will despite not knowing him for very long? Why did you think she chose to ignore the letter that said not to marry him? Once again, Lucy writes an amazing setting! The island itself is by far another character. It’s beautiful but dangerous with especially rough waters. The island is only two miles from one end to the other and is described as longer than wide. And the only way to get the island is from a private boat. The island adds to the mystery setting especially when it comes to the eventual murder.

This story is told from multiple perspectives over the course of the weekend, with the body and the killer only being revealed at the very end. If you read the great World Leaders' biographies, you can see specific charming techniques used by them over others. These are usually harmless and even symbiotic to both individuals. The predators use these same charming techniques over poor innocent empaths to win over their hearts so that they can manipulate them later to drain even their souls (like the Dementors). Lucey Foley has shown how these predators manipulate others in multiple parts of this novel. For a book that is in many ways true “popcorn reading,” THE GUEST LIST also has a surprising weight at its core. Much of THE GUEST LIST is spent reveling in the juicy drama and secrets of its cast of characters, but as readers explore those secrets, they will find that a number of these men and women are carrying with them heavy burdens. Much of this story is shiny, over-the-top glamour, but there are moments of real sorrow interwoven among the revelry. This is by no means a deeply twisted or disturbing book; it is hugely entertaining and a ton of fun to devour, a “popcorn read” in every sense of the word. But I found it entirely to the author’s credit that she manages to weave into this otherwise quite over-the-top suspense story a number of themes that might feel relevant to readers, from marital challenges to grief to body image and more. This cast of characters is far from likable—only a couple really evoke any sympathy!—but Foley beautifully laces their wild personas with touches of real, relatable challenges. Will tells Olivia to keep quiet about their affair – she’s the one who wrote her sister Jules the note warning her about her fiancé.

Are you willing to kiss all your spare cash goodbye? Are you easily distracted by independent bookshops, bi Are you searching for the NEXT best book? Lyall, Sarah (10 December 2020). [2] Career [ edit ] Weddings are memorable occasions but, as we all know, there's frequently some level of drama simmering just under the pristine surface.Let’s not forget Aoife, wedding planner, working her ass off to organize the entire ceremony, achieving a complex and challenging job but she observes everyone, looking agitated, seems like waiting for the shoe drop. Why is she so frustrated? What is she worried about? Johnno is distraught when he finds out that Will sabotaged his chance of being on the show. Let’s talk about how that reveal caused him to finally confront Will about their coverup. but overall, this is a very enjoyable and addicting read! i look forward to seeing what kind of story LF comes up with next!

Aiolfe tells Will that there is nothing in the grave, but Johnno claims that Loner’s body was found by the caretaker. What happened to Loner’s body? Who is telling the truth? What happened to Pete? If you really appreciate their work, you can tell that as a compliment. If you are appalled by a celebrity's ostentation, you should avoid them altogether as they are not the best paradigm for us to follow or have a conversation with. The killer was Aiofe, the wedding planner. She was the sister of Darcey “Loner” Malone, the boy Will and Johnno pranked. That morning of the wedding, a storm is brewing and the other guests arrive. The wedding goes as planned. Afterwards, Johnno talks to Will's father, who was headmaster at their school. Johnno finds out that he thinks Johnno stole the GSCE papers (UK standardized test) that Will used to cheat on the exam. (Actually, Will stole them.) Next, Johnno strikes up a conversation with Piers, Will's producers. (Will hadn't included Piers on the guest list but Jules had assumed he'd want him there.) Piers reveals that they had wanted both of them for the show, but Will told them Johnno wasn't interested. Before Will can interrupt, there's a commotion because Olivia has gone into the water and is drowning. Will saves her.
