About this deal

Tristan Cunningham (playing Pattie Mae Wells and Woman 1) during a dress rehearsal of "Home" presented by the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the Buriel Clay Theater in San Francisco, Calif.

Penrose and Woodward give off a sense of other-worldliness, or not being quite with us for the moment, that neatly personifies mental illness without dipping into caricature. We are proud to partner with the National Theatre to bring world-leading performances to an audience of unprecedented size and diversity. It was revived off-Broadway by the Actors Company Theatre (TACT) in 2006, starring British actor Simon Jones and American actress Cynthia Harris. Despite being institutionalised all four individuals are in the same situation yet their misconceptions and deceptions are relevant to the same conditions today and in society as a whole. We know children need play to thrive and make sense of their world, and that play supports their mental and physical health and wellbeing. Discover sound you can feel, home cinema that transports you to another world and lighting that brings living spaces to life. You’ll also become part of a huge worldwide audience, watching together and sharing your favourite scenes, lines, and breath-taking moments.

The men stay true to their class and upbringing and the women true to their own backgrounds, but all get teary at various times, and as these people, try to help each other, despite their social differences, the universal need for companionship and understanding is highlighted. The near-impossible dialogue sits nicely in the mouths of David Penrose and Pete Woodward (as Harry and Jack respectively) with Penrose, in particular giving a fastidious precise performance the nit-picky placing of his hat on a table before a word has been spoken being a perfect example. She steps so fully into each character — every tiny role a richly imagined amalgam of bearing and voice — that with each snap of a transformation you hold your breath, as if observing a magic trick. The play is set in the grounds of an asylum and offers a snapshot of life over the period of one day, showing the solitude and dislocation of madness and the inability to communicate. With astonishingly sparse dialogue, by the time the day is over and the shadows fall, we as an audience are moved to compassion, sympathy, and respect for these extraordinarily ordinary men. Cress Brown directed Ed Edward’s award-winning The Political History of Smack and Crack at Paines Plough's Roundabout, Soho Theatre and UK tour. IBDB (Internet Broadway Database) archive is the official database for Broadway theatre information. His other novels include 'Pasmore', winner of the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize; 'Saville' winner of the Booker Prize for Fiction; and 'A Serious Man' published in 1998.

Credits include, Wendy and Peter Pan (The Royal Shakespeare Company); Flathampton (The Royal and Derngate); Therese Raquin (Bath Theatre Royal); All That is Solid Melts Into Air, The Hide, One Million, (Tangled Feet Theatre); Amphibians, The Drawing Play (Offstage Theatre); Moonfleet, The Secret Garden,, The Ballad of Martha Brown (Angel Exit Theatre); Phone Home, The Situation Room (Upstart Theatre, Pathos Munich). In 1952 the play was adapted as a film Home at Seven directed by and starring Ralph Richardson, with many of the stage cast reprising their roles. Cephus takes his childhood Sunday school teachings — “Thou shalt not kill” — so seriously that he’s willing to go to jail for them when he gets drafted to fight in Vietnam. Many plays offer audio description and each audio described performance is accompanied by Intro Notes (in MP4 format) that describe the story, set, cast and costumes for audiences to listen to in advance of watching the production.Home features the interactions of a number of eccentric characters, including the seemingly benign Harry, highly opinionated Jack, cynical Marjorie, and flirtatious Kathleen. Remember when you started your play to make sure you get to watch the play in full and don’t miss out! An intermediary to help the audience see Caitlin’s struggles outside of home is her best (well, only) pal Nicole, who Hodgson brings to life with plenty of humour, charm, and spirit. Penman’s music has a necessary bounce, and though Lockheart’s lyrics may not always be the most memorable, save for Findlay’s solo towards the end which finally relinquishes their angst and crying for help, they are serviceable for the storytelling mechanics of the musical, often offering a light-hearted break-away from the melancholy and weight of the story. There’s no dramatic conflict to get those juices flowing, no moments of heightened feelings or jolts of intellectual insight.
