About this deal

Two of the best string options for this model are Yamaha FS50BT or D’Addario EXP11. The former is renowned for their rust resistance and longevity. The third and the sixth string in this set have a special coating for a natural and consistent sound.

If you were simply reading this review out of curiosity, you might be in the market for an acoustic guitar. If this is the case, make sure you read 5 Critical Things To Look For When Buying An Acoustic Guitar to make sure you find the guitar that’s right for you. The best thing you can do if you plan to play for a long time and master the craft would be to learn to setup your own guitar. It’s a daunting task for a beginner, but once you get over the initial fear, it will really pay off and can save you hundreds of dollars at the guitar shop over the years. Featuring superb projection and volume with a warm, rich tone, the FG830 is a superb acoustic guitar for playing live, recording in the studio or just enjoying at home with friends. How new to playing you are is probably a factor – if you’re starting out, the FG800 is perhaps the best choicebecause it is less expensive, and you’re unlikely to hear the difference in sound you would get with the FG830.The na_sr cookie is used to recognize the visitor upon re-entry. Because of this, you get a bigger low-end, as well as greater projection used for either records or live performances. With the special bracing designed for boosting the volume and adding complexity to the middle range, the FG830 acoustic guitar is perfect for learning with a pure sound and writing with an interesting tone. Playability Great electrics including a system 66 feature, 3-band EQ under saddle piezo, and adjustable frequency controls for the low to mid-range. A new FG has louder and stronger sound in the low- to mid-ranges, thanks to cutting-edge acoustic analysis technology developed by the Yamaha R&D Division.

Strong, stable, and durable, meaning it will withstand the wear and tear that comes with traveling (for those that plan on taking their guitar on the road). There are two types of people in this world – those who appreciate the sound and value of Yamaha’s lower-line acoustics and those who have never played them. It has replaced the now-discontinued FG730S, which reigned as a popular choice in the cost-effective, solid-top segment. However, the FG830 has some improvements and features scalloped bracing. Let’s take a closer look at the important aspects of the guitar.I like my guitars to have a cutaway so I can play high end chords with a capo on the 7th fret, but at this price point that would be asking a lot. On the FG830, I’ll try to keep my capo below the 5th. Appearance

On the subject of playability, Erv Troyer from Indiana writes that “This guitar almost plays by itself.” Again, looking at the FG830’s minor negatives… The guitar doesn’t come with a case, but as I indicated there are vendors who include a case and some nice accessories. Also, the fact this guitar doesn’t come with electronics may be a deal killer for some. Finally, the saddle, nut, and bridge pins that are made from plastic is a turn off for some folks. These items can easily be swapped for ones made from bone for not very much money. But even then, odds are the used guitar will be in need of repairs and maintenance that tip the cost too far out of value. It’s the same with guitars as with everything else– you pay for what you get.For those who like the sound of the FG800 but are worried about the size, the FS800 might be the one for them because it’s the same guitar but using a Concert guitar design as opposed to a Dreadnaught design. As you gain some experience, you will inevitably start noticing its limitations. What I like best about this model is that Yamaha has left plenty of room for upgrades. A Yamaha was the first acoustic good acoustic I ever played. As such, they’ll always have a special spot in my heart. The Yamaha FG830 is a great guitar for me to introduce you to the guitar that set me on a long and rewarding musical path. Construction The chord work sounds full, and the tuning is stable. The unplugged output is loud enough for campfires and couch sessions.

To sum up Yamaha’s FG830 I have to say I came away wanting to add this sleeper to my collection. As much as I love my higher-end guitars, there is some trepidation that enters into the equation when you want to leave the house with it for a gig. So, the idea that for a few Benjamin’s I can grab a great guitar and not obsess about it… Oh yeah! Pros

I recently had a chance to sit down with this guitar and give it a thorough test drive. I consider myself to be in the pro/advanced category of player, and I immediately found this guitar to be very impressive – considering all it has to offer – especially at its low price point. Being a Martin owner for some time now, I have to say that this Yamaha does a fine job keeping up with the big dogs. Comfort & Playability After thoroughly surveying the music store solid-tops, I found the Yamaha FG830 to be truly worthy of a detailed review. However, my only gripe is they are patently lousy at naming guitars…and thus we’ll review the “FG830”. In part, this is thanks to Yamaha’s engineers, who use cutting edge technology to make sure their guitars are continuously redesigned so musicians can get the most out of them, as well as the company’s commitment to quality. Sound-wise, the body wood is a deciding factor since both guitars sport a solid spruce soundboard with scalloped X bracing.
