About this deal

There’s no better time than October to read a really terrifying book, and I’m so glad I started my Halloween month with Ania Ahlborn’s newest horror novel, BROTHER. It far exceeded my quota for suspense, chills, and gore. Let’s get right to the meat of it. Even after this happens though, loyalty to the family remains one of the most important themes in his world. This book, set deep in the heart of Appalachia, is extremely disturbing. In fact, if you aren't disturbed by this, I'm not sure we can be friends. Then you have Momma...Momma wears the pants in this family. No question about it. Momma stays in the kitchen a lot, except for when she gets a hankering for one of "her girls."

I LOVED it. This week has been all kinds of real life crazy for me and I guess it's fitting that I finished this craziness on Halloween night. Born in Ciechanow Poland,Ania Ahlbornhas always been drawn to the dark, mysterious, and morbid side of life. Her earliest childhood memory is of crawling through a hole in the chain-link fence that separated her family home from a large wooded cemetery, where she’d spend hours among the headstones, breaking up bouquets of silk flowers so everyone had their equal share. But nineteen-year-old Michael Morrow isn’t like the rest of his family. He doesn’t take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees. Michael pines for normalcy, and he’s sure that someday he’ll see the world beyond West Virginia. When he meets Alice, a pretty girl working at a record shop in the small nearby town of Dahlia, he’s immediately smitten. For a moment, he nearly forgets about the monster he’s become. But his brother, Rebel, is all too eager to remind Michael of his place… The signed limited edition of Brother by Ania Ahlborn is presented in two states ( Lettered and Limited), and is limited to five hundred and twenty-six copies. The edition measures 6¼” x 9¼” and features six full-color illustrations by World Fantasy Award winner Samuel Araya. Also included is a new introduction by Ania Ahlborn, and both editions are signed by the author and artist. This is the first signed limited edition of the novel, and the first time it is issued in hardcover. Hailed by critics as “impossible to put down,” Ahlborn delivers all the guilt, guts, and gore of family drama as Michael fights to attain the life he longs for.I loved to watch the evolution of the relationships and the way Michael's outlook begins to change when he befriends someone from outside the home.

It is horrible and dreadful, but it could happen. Nothing is scarier than mankind and their capacity to harm one another. At least not to me. Nothing,” she said. “Just that you’re looking around the place like you haven’t ever seen the inside of a theater before.” I dunno. I guess I like that Dorothy gets to escape to a place where it's colorful and magical instead of livin' in Kansas all her life." He paused, then added, "Those flying monkeys were pretty good too." Brotheris the terrifying tale of a family’s disturbing traditions, and of one brother’s determination to break free from all he has ever known. In a crooked farmhouse off the beaten path and miles away from civilization live the Morrows. A band of eccentric recluses, the family keeps to themselves so as not to be questioned by local police when girls go missing from the side of the highway. But nineteen-year-old Michael Morrow is different. He derives no pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees. Now, that’s not to say this wasn’t a stabby selection. On the contrary, it was indeed. It even featured a little something extra . . .So I was expecting (and received) blood and gore. What I did not plan for was for such a deep story. The getting there was all the fun (???? – if you’re nuts like Mitchell). As for my reaction? I don’t do so well with feelings. They tend to make me all . . . . in the early 1980s and located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. The pic turns on the depraved Morrow family, which lives off the beaten path and preys on young women whom they kidnap from the side of the highway. There’s unrest within the family, however, as their 19-year-old son Michael Morrow tries to break free from their clutches and escape his past. I received a copy of the ebook Brother from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I am reviewing in honor of the 7th annual Women in Horror Month. Born in Ciechanow Poland, Ania has always been drawn to the darker, mysterious, and sometimes morbid sides of life. Her earliest childhood memory is of crawling through a hole in the chain link fence that separated her family home from the large wooded cemetery next door. She’d spend hours among the headstones, breaking up bouquets of silk flowers so that everyone had their equal share.
