About this deal

To connect the LG 34GN850 monitor to your PC via USB and utilize the two USB ports, you will need a USB 3. The monitor consistently delivers a 4ms response time experience at all refresh rates tested, and even as we move down to 100Hz, the level of overshoot is minimal. Pixel responsiveness is the best aspect of the LG 34GN850 thanks to its refresh rate and a particularly effective overdrive feature. We’d opt to use the monitor around 50 to 75 percent brightness in a room with plenty of ambient light, and at 40 or lower at night. The LG 34GN850 boasts a 34-inch curved Nano IPS panel with a 3440 x 1440 resolution, 160Hz refresh rate, and a 1ms boosted response time.

This LG 34GN850 has been used as my main gaming monitor for a few years but I've recently changed to a two monitor setup. At the reaction time being 1 ms, the 34GN850-B alters RGB values rather fast and retains the image blur-free in motion.

Chuck the 34GN850 on a simple desk-clamping monitor arm, and you’ve got one classy-looking ultrawide. At the same time with the content that has an aspect ratio of 16:9, there is going to be chunky black bars on the left and right sides except if it's stretched out to fit, which is ill-advised.In our test environment, the monitor’s peak brightness of nearly 400 nits was too high for normal use, and we’d expect that to be true for most users. Watching YouTube videos in Chrome for example, does not apply the ICC corrections, so advanced users are better off switching the display to the sRGB mode and creating a profile for that mode.

As spotted by Tom’s Hardware, the recent Canary build of Windows 11 does not include WordPad as part of the default software package. The Samsung is a 16:9 model available in a 27-inch or 32-inch size, while the LG is a 21:9 model that only comes in a 34-inch size. It’s a good choice if gaming is not important to you, or you only play slow-paced games (like Civilization VI or Microsoft Flight Simulator). Unfortunately, its sub-par contrast ratio makes it less suitable for dark rooms, and its ergonomics are poor, as it can't swivel or rotate to portrait mode. There is a joystick under the bottom bezel which is easy to reach and quite responsive, but you can also use the brand’s OnScreen Control in Windows. The LG 34GN850 steps up its game in the ultrawide segment with an overclocked 160Hz refresh rate that comes with benefits of Nano IPS technology. And then using the same profile for P3, again very strong deltaE results, the very top end is slightly inaccurate as we don't get full P3 coverage, but this is good enough for most creative work and well above average. It's one of the best 21:9 ultrawide gaming monitors that we've reviewed so far and it's cheaper than other similar monitors.

The 'Normal' Overdrive setting provides the best performance with less overshoot than 'Fast' and 'Faster'. It’s large, has a wide color gamut, accurate colors, and delivers a consistent, uniform, sharp image. The LG 34GN850’s screen is highly-sought after for work from use, so the port could be used to further market it to the masses. With a typical display brightness of 400 cd/m², the LG 34GN850 provides a bright and vibrant display. Connect one end of the cable to the USB port on the monitor and the other end to a USB port on your PC.

While IPS might be the best allrounder tech, it's behind a good VA panel when it comes to picture quality. On the other hand, the Nixeus has a VA panel with a much higher contrast ratio, allowing it to produce deep and inky blacks. The LG 34GN850 costs twice as much as budget ultrawides that use VA panels, and offers the same size, resolution, and almost the same refresh rate.
