About this deal

Louis looks at Izzy with blatant appreciation. I feel another stab of that strange, new fear. As they launch into their race, I watch him gaining on her, his form cutting through the water, and then I turn away, heading into the main spa, because what else can I do? In the same way that the bikini wasn’t for me, I don’t get to feel anxious when Izzy’s on a date. The chemistry between the two characters was off the charts. And I loved the other side characters as I already said.

Izzy and Lucas, will have to co-exist and put their differences aside, sharing all of the responsibilities of the day shift, when staff reductions are made at the struggling Forest Manor Hotel, while “Poor Mandy” will man the night shift on her own. This is Beth O'Leary at the height of her powers. Hypnotically good, fresh, fun and moving, with one-liners that made my sides hurt, characters I want to take out to dinner, and one of the best endings I've read in some time. This is not just a great rom com, this is a Beth O'Leary rom com, and in my opinion there is no better writer out there - Gillian McAllister It was immediately clear that these two were hot for each other, but that a past misunderstanding had set them on the wrong course, resulting in a lot of competitive one-upmanship and tons of snarky banter. Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the opportunity to review this cheerful and cozy book. The book mentions sex, but it is a closed door romance without graphic content. Adult readers will find the material suitable.Oh my goodness, I have not enjoyed a book like The Wake-Up Call in a long time! I could not stop reading, and when I wasn't reading it, I couldn't stop thinking about it! It was like having a crush! Equal parts heart-warming, touching, sharp, and sexy, Beth O'Leary just gets better and better." - Lia Louis The promise of love The last thing she expects is to be torn between two very different men – a face from the past, whose loss she’s always mourned, and a roguish poet, who scorns convention. I really needed a strong romance read and this one was it. O'Leary took her time setting up why Izzy and Lucas did not get along and the slow turn from enemies to lovers was realistic. I loved both characters, and other characters like "Poor Mandy" and Mr. Townsend. The writing really snapped in this one and the humor was great. I felt like I was getting a great romantic comedy movie in book form and I just wanted more. The ending was very sweet and I loved it. I think O'Leary had some misses the past few years so I was hesitant to buy this one, but am glad I did. It’s the busiest time of the year, and Forest Manor Hotel is quite literally falling apart. So when sworn enemies Izzy and Lucas are given the same shift on the hotel’s front desk, they have no choice but to put their differences aside.

It's the busiest season of the year, and Forest Manor Hotel is quite literally falling apart. So when Izzy and Lucas are given the same shift on the hotel's front desk, they have no choice but to put their differences aside and see it through. Beth O'Leary never misses. The Wake-Up Call bursts with Beth's signature heart, wit, and charm, topped with sizzling enemies to lovers banter. Brimming with palpable warmth and depth of character, this one is for the hopeless romantics in all of us." - Amy Lea Tasked with clearing out the “lost and found” closet, and selling anything that may be of value, Izzy finds some wedding rings, but she feels it is only right to attempt to find the owners of these items before selling them. The subplot with Izzy and Lucas searching for the owners of a handful of long-lost wedding rings was a charming arc to follow, leading to some really sweet and tender reveals and some very funny moments that made me laugh-out-loud in classic rom-com style.

The Wake-Up Call

The palpable chemistry between Izzy and Lucas, along with their witty banter, completely engrossed me in their love story. Izzy's vulnerability in opening up her feelings after being crushed by Lucas' rejection a year ago, and Lucas' efforts to make her fall in love with him, his patience, and his inner sweetness made me sigh and smile countless times. The Wake-up Call is utter perfection: it's everything I love about romance books in a seductive, funny, big-hearted and masterfully told story." - Cressida McLaughlin It's the most entertaining, laugh-out-loud read among Beth O'Leary's works, with fewer dramatic and angsty moments. But when Izzy puts her heart on the line, and confesses her true feelings to Lucas in a Christmas card-suggesting that they meet under the mistletoe-and arrives to find him kissing her roommate instead, she vows to NEVER forgive either one.

A gorgeous read that expertly and deftly takes us away from our everyday lives and plunges us into the fun, heartfelt and engrossing world of Beth O’Leary’s talent. She is a master of her craft.”―Salma El-Wardany, author of These Impossible Things I adored The Wake-Up Call. It's got warmth and depth and so much humour. I was swept away - Lucy Vine This is Beth O’Leary at the height of her powers. Hypnotically good, fresh, fun and moving, with one-liners that made my sides hurt, characters I want to take out to dinner, and one of the best endings I’ve read in some time. This is not just a great rom com, this is a Beth O’Leary rom com, and in my opinion there is no better writer out there.”―Gillian McAllister, New York Times bestselling author of Wrong Place Wrong Time It's a sweet enough story as long as all you want is a love/hate romance for most of the book. Its filled with misunderstandings, misreading and some very dubious set pieces that were a bit on the cringey side.We are delighted to welcome bestselling romance authors Beth O'Leary and Sophie Irwin to your screens this October to talk about their brand new novels, The Wake-Up Call and A Lady's Guide to Scandal. With strong female leads, love triangles, steamy moments, long, lingering looks and comedy in abundence, these books have it all! We can't wait for you to fall in love with them as much as we have. As their bitter rivalry turns into something much more complicated, Izzy and Lucas begin to wonder if there’s more at stake here than the hotel’s future. Can the two of them make it through the season with their hearts intact?

I started late today, so I am staying late, too. That is only reasonable. And the seating areas dotted around the pool badly need tidying. There are magazines here from a time when all the UK had to worry about was whether a man named Jeremy Clarkson had or had not punched someone. The whole Ring Thing was just plain stupid. They should have kept the rings, sold them, used the money to fix the hotel and moved on...Problem solved. If they loved the hotel so much why wasn't that plan put into place right away? Bottom line, this was just too cutesy for my personal taste but I am glad I finally gave this author a go...it is my year of thinking outside the box as far as giving different genres go, and I can't expect all of them to work for me.

Success!

Beth O’Leary has become a must-read author, with rom-coms like The Flatshare and The Road Trip at the top of our favorites list. She follows suit with The Wake-Up Call.” ―Country Living
