Too often she tries to show everything, and the parade of physical and psychological abuse is never interspersed with appropriate context. Ashley's an intense person, and this is an intense book: there were times that I couldn't read two or three short chapters at a time.

Additionally, the character portrays herself very passively throughout, asserting most of the decisions were made by men in her life. this girl has had a crazy life, most of her life she has been taken advantage of but seems to be happy now, I'm glad she was the narrator, help's to tell the story the way she wants it told, more emotionally.

The drugs alone she and he friends and bf took were enough to kill your average elephant, never mind a human, I suspect.Honest, raw, fun, shocking, sad, brutal, sweaty-bad in many moments, sweaty-good in others--a human story that transcends its subject matter simply because it is so monumentally bare in all of its aspirations, trappings, glory, and more. I loathe the attitudes about women and their sexuality that I believe Small's specific genre of pornography perpetuates, but I do respect her willingness to expose herself by writing a memoir. You make it sound like everyone who's critical of the porn industry is a hypocrite which is far from the case.

What struck me interesting is that it can be any type of job where you have to perform - and the strain of keeping that lifestyle or drug use up just to make it to the next day or even moment is a fascinating process.Ori lives and works with her husband, photographer Dave Naz, and her cat and dog in the Hollywood Hills. Small has no regrets for the life she had lived (and still does in a sense by working with her talented porn director/photographer Dave Naz) because she sees it as an unique life experience. Afterwards, he doesn't want just to get rid of them but invites them to a day relaxing by his swimming pool. The one third I did make it through was broken up over time when I was not listening to more interesting books. She has a problem with honest, but no problem with her boyfriend dipping stamps in Drano and selling them to 7th graders.

In straightforward anecdotes that make punk provocateur GG Allin look like the melon-smashing comedian Gallagher, Small recounts a career of bodily fluids, superhuman sex, and degradations too numerous to name. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, she makes a credible argument that what she considers her best work -- the "Girlvert" series, in which she played a sort of hyper-aggressive, vengeful female id -- was genuine performance art. She works hard to put her porn experiences in an appropriate emotional context, describing why she felt that some of what she did was more liberating than degrading.You get a taste of her bawdy, sometimes wounding humor, and the book keeps a good balance between details that raincoat-sporting porn fans will appreciate and explanations of the basic elements of the industry that non-fans will find educational. She readily admits that when most of the events describes in this book took place, she was easily manipulated, too eager to please men, desperate for attention, and high or drunk almost all the time. Not a pretty scene and one begins to hate Tyler, her boyfriends, a weak, lily-livered SOB, for getting her into it. All this story is read in a monotone that is extremely boring and monotonous to listen to in one sitting.
