About this deal

As I alluded to earlier, the mobile-monitor world is undergoing a convergence of power and connectivity thanks to USB Type-C connectivity. Many USB-C ports support both DisplayPort over USB and USB power delivery, letting both data/video and power flow through the port from a computer over a single USB cable. Most new mobile monitors have at least one USB-C port, and some connect solely via USB-C. While this simplicity has its appeal, be sure that your laptop's USB-C port supports data, video, and power transfer, because some early-generation USB-C ports don't. (Thunderbolt ports should also work fine; their functionality encompasses all of that of USB-C.) You might not feel comfortable with spending quite the asking price of the Asus ZenScreen Go MB16AP since it is pretty pricey. However, that’s probably the biggest strike against it. Outside of that and the fact that it is a bit on the chunky side, there’s much more to love than not. But you have a few good games there already (Astral Chain, Mario+Rabbids, Octopath Traveler). When I had FE, that is all I played. Sort of something that can take all your time (might get burned out if you play it after Octopath 🤔 great change of pace during/after Astral) Should have taken a picture of my setup during travel with the screen. It worked really well.

The ASUS ZenScreen Touch app works on Android 6.0 and later versions. Device must support Host Storage mode and HID multi-touch function. ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT has been tested and works with the following list of Android devices. Bottom Line:Lenovo's ThinkVision M14d portable monitor pairs well with laptops that match its 16:10 aspect ratio. A sturdy, tiltable stand and a quality IPS panel distinguish this winning mobile display. Bottom Line:Built around a 17.3-inch IPS panel with an esports-worthy peak refresh rate, NexiGo's NG17FGQ delivers on almost all accounts for gamers seeking a portable monitor for play with a PC or console. We evaluate a monitor with particular attention given to its core image quality, including brightness, contrast, color vibrancy and accuracy. While this can - and will - be assessed by the experienced eye of our professional reviewer, some manufacturer screen specs can only be definitively judged by an 'electronic eye' - a monitor calibrator. Where possible, a calibration device will be placed on the screen to verify its advertised color space coverage, brightness output and consistency, and factory color calibration accuracy. Beyond image quality, we'll also scrutinise the monitor's display and data ports to ensure acceptable connectivity, and will give a thorough assessment of build quality, including the range of ergonomic adjustment in its stand. Only then will we determine if a screen is worthy of use by a discerning imaging or video enthusiast. Since 2004, I have worked on PCMag’s hardware team, covering at various times printers, scanners, projectors, storage, and monitors. I currently focus my testing efforts on 3D printers, pro and productivity displays, and drives and SSDs of all sorts.

Over the years, I have reviewed iPad and iPhone science apps, plus the occasional camera, laptop, keyboard, and mouse. I've also written a host of articles about astronomy, space science, travel photography, and astrophotography for PCMag and its past and present sibling publications (among them, Mashable and ExtremeTech), as well as for the PCMag Digital Edition. That’s the most reliable way to connect a portable monitor and ensures both compatibility and plenty of bandwidth for any resolution a portable monitor is likely to offer. That said, many mobile screens also support old-school USB-A connectivity. Just be aware that it will require software and drivers, which could present a problem depending on your device to drive the display. A full-size HDMI port means you don't need to mess around with mini-HDMI cables or adapters, and the two USB-C ports can carry both data and power. There's even a standard USB port and a Micro SD card slot, should you wish to load up apps, movies or music to the device.

We also really liked the tablet-size cover, which folds out underneath the screen and acts as a stand, very much like some of the covers Apple has released for its iPad range. This means you don't have to invest in a separate stand for the screen when you're using it, but it does result in quite a large footprint.

We considered how many types of connections (USB-C, USB-A, VGA, etc.) the monitors supported and the number of connectivity ports they had. We looked at the display brightness and the viewing angle width.

Sometimes double the screen real estate is not enough, and that’s where the Oiiwak Triple portable monitor comes in. The name is confusing, as it doesn’t actually have three screens – it just gives you two more for that triple-display setup. Offering two 14-inch 16:10 screens attached to an aluminum alloy tray, it is the perfect companion to anyone who just can’t get enough space for their digital workflow. The issue here, of course, is that the 4K resolution is wasted on the Switch, which can only output at 1080p, but as is the case with every screen in this round-up, the PU15-PRE really comes into its own when you're using it for more than just games. It can double as a second screen for your computer to enhance your productivity or as a travel companion for when you fancy watching 4K movies on the go (you can connect your smartphone or tablet via USB-C, you see). The TD1655 can be conveniently powered straight from your laptop via a USB 3.2 Type-C connection, or even a mobile power bank, so you can use the screen alongside your phone without having to find a mains outlet. The Viewsonic VG1655 is a sister model for those who can live without the touchscreen functionality. Choosing portable monitor hinges on your use case and to what device you are connecting. The very concept of a portable monitor makes the most sense with a USB-C-equipped laptop. Seananigans As clearly mentioned in the piece, these screens exist in a middle ground. Take my own situation, for example; I work in my home office which doesn't have a TV. I use one of these monitors for my Switch and other gaming stuff - it means I'm getting better visuals for most Switch games (when playing in portable, the visuals aren't as good in most titles). On the positive side, the stereo speakers are powerful and the quality of the image is striking; colours really pop on this display. It also comes with an optional stylus (which is going to be of more interest to computer users looking for a second screen) and remote control which allows you to toggle options more easily. On the plus side, the display has a matte-style screen which means you get less glare in bright locations, and the design looks fantastic – it reminds us of the iPad Pro in a lot of ways. We also like the cover stand, which is laid flat on the table and has grooves into which the screen 'sits', which means it's highly unlikely to fall over during use. The display quality is decent enough; the Z1 Gamut has 100% SRGB support, and compares favourably to the other screens we tested here. As is the case with the CF011X, there's no touch capability. CUSTOM SIZE for Pro Wood Monitor Stand and Computer Riser with Solid Wood - Size customization available for Computer Monitors holder Whether it’s for your gaming laptop or iPad, a portable monitor stand can help make life easier for your productivity. In our view, the ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACE provides the best value for money, making it the best portable monitor for most people.

Many smaller desktop displays can be taken on the road in a pinch, but "true" portable monitors are those specifically sold as such. Even those range quite a bit in size: from 3.5 inches to 22 inches. Portable displays run the gamut from personal, business, and general-purpose models to panels for artists and gamers. And you never even mention the Switch Lite. I know the Switch Lite is supposed to be missing the chip to output but if these work why not that? And if they don't work with Switch Lite shouldn't you have at least put that in the article? What am I missing? The LG Gram line is known for its super-lightweight nature, and you can expect the same from this portable monitor, sitting at only 1.45 pounds for a 16-inch display. It’s, in fact, lighter than many of the smaller options on this list. Naturally, it works beautifully with the MacBooks, especially with its two USB-C ports. And while its color accuracy isn’t anything to write home about, it does offer DCI-P3 99% color gamut, which is a nice concession.

Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. A few older portable-display models draw their power from a laptop over a separate USB 3.0 connection, but USB-C is well on its way to making this kind of connection passé. Yeah, I did not even open my 2nd EVGA AIO. I just kept the old one and took the new one out of 1 box and put it in the other with the return label. I did not want to disassemble my PC. UPERFECT 4K Portable Monitors takes the FreeSync and HDR technology, provide amazing 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) picture quality, and clear, smooth and excellent performance. It's enjoyable while watching movie, playing games with the 4K monitor. Perfect for photographers and designers. Why all of these panels, all of a sudden? The widespread adoption of USB Type-C connectivity—with its ability to transfer power, data, and video over a single cable—has been a godsend for the growth of portable displays. They no longer need a dedicated AC adapter for juice (though some do come with one as an option), and many have just a single USB-C port that handles all the connectivity, though some add HDMI or other connectors.
