About this deal

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThat’s about what I paid and it took around a week to arrive. The thing I liked was that you didn’t get caught out with any unforeseen VAT, customs clearance fees or Royal Mail charges - and I got it before Christmas! You see, I like flying under the radar as far as my watches are concerned. I have no need or want to own and show off the flashiest wrist candy available. My flashiest watch is a Mr Jones Watches Nuage, which is only so because it’s immediately apparent that it’s a watch that is not for telling time. That watch is also on my special list of four, at least until I get a chance to get out to Japan and shop for a vintage Seiko to replace it as my go-to “dress” watch. Another watch I already own that’s on the list is my Seiko Alpinist SARB017, my GADA three-hander. See a trend? I do. My core watches have been or are turning out to be relatively affordable, fun, and largely Japanese (though the Nuage employs a Swiss quartz engine). That won’t be the case for the final addition to the four, though that’s a topic for another article. Adjustable date format (M.DD or DD.M) and adjustable day of week language (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian)

Now with the light setting on 3 seconds and the brighter LED I found that could read it in the dark quite easily and the optional DD:MM format also helps legibility. Perfect for free diving without scuba gear: the watch is water resistant up to 20 bar according to ISO 22810.

I've had friends comment, ask if I got it at Walmart. I'd take it off, hand it to them and say "No, it had to be imported from Japan. Try it on!" Only to have them compliment the comfort and solid feel. I've converted a few. I highly recommend 5000U. I have M5610 and 5000U. 5000U strap is softer and much more comfortable to wear. 5000U has more weight, which makes it feel better on wrist. 5000U visual outlook is better to my eye. The latest upgrade comes with some long asked-for changes, albeit pared to the core. Yet it also retains some of the best features of the original: the same dirt-cheap replacement bezel and strap that have been made for the past 10 years. DLC to resist scratches. Its shares the same module as non-steel watches that have been produced in far greater numbers, so replacements and spares are virtually guaranteed.

I have the GW-M5600 (predecessor of the GW-M5610) the GMW-B5000-G1 and since yesterday also the GW-5000U-1. Whether in Europe, North America and Japan or in the outer reaches of Canada, Central America and China - once the watch has been set to the local time, it receives the relevant signal and shows the correct time wherever you are. In many countries, it also sets itself automatically to summer and winter time. You can post in Sales Corner if your post count is 250 or more and you have been registered as a member for 180 days or more. It’s clear from your post that you want a GW-5000U, and I am a big proponent of getting what you want in life. I received mine the other day and I can’t believe the difference! The extra weight and strap make this feel so premium. Actually the way the 5610 strap sits on my wrist vs this one means that the 5000u actually sits better but has extra height and heft make it “feel” so much more.

In the past, the “end of production” status appeared to apply globally to all markets, but it’s uncertain how the discontinuation of the GW-M5610-1JF will affect the status of the GWM5610-1 in the U.S., where none of the “U” models were released yet. It seems likely that the U.S. will get the new GW-M5610U version at some point, but considering there is probably a large amount of GWM5610-1 watches still available, it could be a while before that happens. I feel there may shortly be a glut of second hand GW-5000s on SC. ;)Haha. Possibly, I will need to wait a while before I have access based on my post count over 5 years. Technical amendments and errors excepted. The sizes in figures do not correspond to the original sizes.I then went with the GW-5600 that linked through to my iPhone which I quite liked - but I still hankered after the simplicity of the self contained GW-5000. It’s the same module (and display) as your 5610 tho, if you have the older non-U version there are some updates like LED light and I think the world time is different too…..the older ones only display 1 world time I think, whereas the new ones let you select five pre-sets to scroll through (instead of scrolling through alllll the time zones on the older one). Then the new ‘U’ version came out and I bought the GW-5610U discounted to see if the changes made any real difference. The 5000U is sound and satisfying. Whether I'm sat at my desk, out walking, going to the store, driving, airports, desert, forest, ocean, whatever, it's wonderfully constant. You can get it wet, covered in dirt or sawdust or sand, bang it, drop it, leave it outside on the lawn all night - and it'll just keep on doing what it does flawlessly. And for those who know about watches, it has a fascinating heritage and design ethos. Individualistic. Retro chic. Tough. Bullet-proof reliability. The daily alarm reminds you about recurring events with an acoustic signal at the time you have set. This model has 5 independent alarms for flexible reminders of important appointments.
