About this deal

He created the royal ball as a general way of getting back at every woman who even slightly reminded him of her. As so many issues are raised in this fantasy story, it would be great for a debate / discussion session in book clubs / intervention groups. A huge thank you to Netgalley, Bloomsbury YA and Kalynn Bayron for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Główna bohaterka, Sophia, buntowniczka z urodzenia, zakochuje się w Constance, bo podziwia ją za to, że mogłaby zarżnąć mężczyznę jak prosiaka w miejskiej alejce. Constance recounts the history of Cinderella from her perspective—one that is very different from how the fairy tale is usually told.

PLS SAY THIS HER NAME, IM GONNA BE SUPER EMBARRASSED IF I FORGOT HER NAME) I have no idea how to feel bout her.

Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron is a YA Fantasy retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale that we have all heard at least once, only this one takes a dark spin on it and completely dismantles everything that could have happened. What I got: At the beginning of the book, Luke is arrested at the ball and then doesn’t appear again until the very end.

The girls are chosen for completely superficial reasons, so it's important to look your best; to be seen, but not heard. Second Love: After Sophia's and Erin's relationship breaks apart due to Erin not being able to handle the societal pressure, Sophia finds a new love in charming rebel Constance. I do really like the idea of a dystopian society that has essentially made the Cinderella fairytale their doctrine in a bizarre Bachelorette like ball culture, but this story mostly feels like it's all ideas and no execution. With a powerful story that is about doing what is right and a host of characters you come to care for deeply, I can find so few faults with this. I wanted to know what really drove her, where her inner strength came from and I wanted to see her character grow more. But Sophia doesn't want to be chosen – she's in love with her best friend, Erin, and hates the idea of being traded like cattle.

Full of power, humour, strength and love, "Cinderella Is Dead" shows itself to be one of the most engaging novels I've encountered this year. No deja lugar a dudas de las cosas que tenemos mal en nuestra sociedad, lo muestra de un modo exagerado para que el mensaje cale. Teen girls are now required to appear at the Annual Ball, where the men of the kingdom select wives based on a girl’s display of finery. This was gay, romantic and perfectly set, with a mixture of traditional fairy tale elements that were flipped on their head and new elements that made it seem less susceptible to tropes and problems. If you love a re-telling of the classics that dismiss stereotypes and has LGBTQ representation, then you will enjoy this pacey read.If I had one criticism, it would be that the story was a little one-sided; all of the main female characters are strong and brave, whereas nearly all of the men are bullies or misogynists. King Manford, the malignant ruler of Lille, has an iron clad fist and is a misogynistic, lying hypocrite with an evil soul. The writing touched the mere surface of the story and a lot more life could have been imbued into every aspect of it. Cinderella: Cinderella has obviously been dead for over 200 years, but she is such an important part of the book. Pomijam już fakt, że rewolucja dokonuje się błyskawicznie za sprawą uprzedniej dekapitacji władcy oraz późniejszej płomiennej przemowy głównej bohaterki.

For worldbuilding and consistency’s sake, I wish the author would have committed one way or the other because the inconsistencies were distracting. I'm thinking this is the LGBTQ+ fairy tale I wish I could have read when growing up and I am so happy young people today will be able to read this story. I considered giving it two stars for the representation, which is the only good thing about this book, but I decided that would be condescending instead of supportive - which doesn't mean I don't understand why people gave it two stars instead of one for this reason. I also think this is just such an interesting use of the Cinderella story, so props to Kalynn Bayron for that too.An ivory-colored envelope sits on the mantel, my name scrawled across the front in billowing black script. Sophia Grimmins takes over the mantle of The Storyteller from the Brothers Grimm and transforms the tale of Cinderella's vilified stepsisters, cruel stepmother and the beneficent magical tree, delivering a blow to the objectification of women by selfish and unworthy men.
