About this deal

A different view from the entrance hall of their home, we can see the Totem floor lamp by Joseph Dirand. In addition, some artwork by Jannis Kounellis; bronze and gold lioness sculpture by Harumi Klossowska de Rola. You also design furniture which you describe as an homage to modernist architecture. What kind of furniture is it? Not far from the madding crowd attending the FIACcontemporary art fair, Joseph Dirand was in the midst of marking his 20-year career with a first monograph, simply titled Interior andpublished by Rizzoli. To coincide with the launch, a selection of his latest furniture designs has been on view at Artcurial as a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it exhibition. Whereas the book draws readers into the discreet yet dramatic apartments, hotels, restaurants and high-end retail spaces that he tailors to arrestingly handsome perfection, the show invites visitors to perceive the materiality of the pieces up-close. Without question, the collection registers as substantial –from a low table in pinkish copper to an openwork cabinet in bronze that weights some 700kg. Even the tome itself feels weightier than most. Unveiling the spectacular Yacht LIVA O, an awe-inspiring creation by the highly respected yacht builder, Abeking & Rasmussen, in 2023. As the most colossal yacht ever constructed by A&R, LIVA O, also identified as PROJECT CELERIUS, stands as a monumental symbol of opulence and innovation. Key Takeaways What would be a better dream for an architect than to be able to reinvent the future of such an iconic mid-century building in the middle of Mayfair by Eero Saarinen,” added Joseph Dirand of Joseph Dirand Architects. “This modernist landmark has been the headquarters of the US Embassy for more than 60 years. Originally conceived as a fortress and inspired by the Palais des Doges in Venice, it will now become the New British palace of hospitality and lifestyle.

Through a neoclassical limestone pedimented doorway at the end of the entrance hall—“very 17th-century Italian,” he pointed out—is the family’s private quarters. In the narrow hallway prowls a sleek bronze-and-gold lioness with auric eyes—a sculpture by Harumi Klossowska de Rola, the daughter of Balthus. Throughout the home, creatures abound—an adorable Lalanne lamb, a vintage scarab table by French mid-century ceramist Georges Jouve, a taxidermy owl from the Paris natural science shop Deyrolle. Let’s discuss some aspects of French style interior design that stand out, talking about different kinds of Parisien interior design styles, and then moving on to elements design styles in different kinds of living spaces. Alberto PintoChristian Liaigre was born in La Rochelle, France in 1943. He studied at the Paris Academy of Fine and Decorative Arts and taught drawing at the Academy Charpentier. Recognised for delivering some of London’s most celebrated landmark schemes, the development is the latest example of Qatari Diar’s continued investment into the UK. The Grade II listed building is currently being reimagined by British architect Sir David Chipperfield as a new retail destination and a Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ luxury hotel.

Produced insigned and numbered limited editions, the furniture herein was first shown as a collection two years ago at Pierre Marie Giraud in Brussels. In the context of the book, however, it suggests how Dirand has been giving further consideration to the evolution of his work. On the evening of the exhibition preview, he tells Wallpaper* that the pieces arose from the projects, rather than the impetus to build a brand. The designer says: “I like to embark on adventures with my clients. The goal is to let design and decoration soften their lives.” The idea was to translate the soul of this sophisticated city and its classical architecture into a new ornamental vocabulary specific to this singular building and project. We are bringing this iconic place into the future for its second life, where it will be more generous and playful.” The designer is known due to the fact that he designed private residences for such notables names as Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Rupert Murdoch and Bryan Adams. Christian Liaigre has made himself known by his refined and high-quality work. The one artist whose work I would collect if I could is Cy Twombly. I have always had a fascination with American minimalism. In particular, I love the poetry of his abstracted Autoritratto (self-portrait) from the 1960s – graphite, gouache, wax crayon and ink on paper – and his Three Studies from the Temeraire (1998-1999). I love that his simple – even naïve – gestures can create such powerful emotion. Gilles and Boissier are a team of interior designers and architects based in Paris and working together since 2004. Over the years they have had projects in some of the world’s top capitals and cities. For his designs, Catroux also uses nothing but the best materials: marbles, fine woods, and opulent upholstery are part of his definition of luxury. From his experiences during his several trips around the world, the designer uses inspiration and passion for art as an input. François Champsaur Top 20 Interior Designers Paris – François Champsaur Joseph Dirand, some architects believe architecture to be vertical; others like David Adjaye believe it should be more horizontal. What is your personal opinion? You also designed several restaurants, among them ‘ Loulou’ ‘Le Flandrin’ and ‘Monsieur Bleu’ in Paris. What is your concept in these restaurants? Joseph Dirand sees the space and perspective of a place. Since a very young age that he has been training his eye, that is why he sees things differently. He is sensitive to the way lights work within a space, has a deep eye for the tiniest of details, and appreciates the rightness of color.

For me the hotel projects are the ones that combine everything. A hotel is both private and public; when you experience a new home for few days you want to feel where you are. It is so exciting to imagine that every day new guests are living their own experience of something that you have designed for them. Recently I decided to develop a collection of extraordinary holiday homes for rental service, like an hotel. This opens a new chapter for me by creating my own brand of hotel. Our first project will be in Italy.
