About this deal

Incidentally the Bacardi Gold (or Oro as it is now) has recently been re-released in the UK as a 40% offering as opposed to the previous 37. Alternatively, try BACARDÍ Reserva 8 in a Rum Negroni: serve 30ml BACARDÍ Reserva 8, 30ml MARTINI Riserva Speciale Rubino, 30ml MARTINI Riserva Speciale Bitter over ice and garnish with an orange twist. Liked it better than both the more expensive Bacardi 10 year old, as well as many much more expensive bottles including several other 12 year olds (like El Dorado and Flor de Cana), the sweeter Diplomatico Reserva, and even the Plantation XO 20th Anniversary.

The flavour profile of both rums is consistent, it’s just that the newer bottling took it a few notches higher – it could also be a side-effect of the 8 Year Old sitting in the bottle for longer, but I doubt. Following its success they launched a standard 8 year old in 1996 without the finish or fancy bottling – that’s the bottle I have. Complex and irresistibly smooth, BACARDÍ Reserva 8 is also surprisingly mellow, with layered aromas of fig, dried apricot, and oaky vanilla. A floral sweetness with notes of caramelised banana, balanced with a warm earthiness which ends with a well-rounded, expansive finish.Content on this site is not intended to substitute for advice given by medical practitioner, pharmacist, or other licensed health-care professional. Inspired by a family recipe from 1862, BACARDÍ Reserva Ocho 8 year old rum is known as The Family Reserve. There’s a reason for that – after the Bacardi family fled Cuba they have moved their operations in other countries such as Puerto Rico and Mexico (where they were already operating for a while) because of the better tariffs in trading with the US. Dark can be bold, sweet (or dry) and even smoky, gold is rich and soothing, and white is smooth, subtle and often refreshing.

The combination of molasses base, different distillations and filtrations is carefully considered and balanced perfectly here. It was a rich taste, tingled the tongue, adding heat, forward tasting with a nose aroma and a rich flavor, with a strong after taste. Seven generations on and it was released to the general public as one of the oldest private rum blends in the world.Known as "The Family Reserve", this BACARDÍ rum was inspired by a recipe from 1862 and was originally kept for family special occasions, but is now available for the world to enjoy. Both the 8 Year Old and Ocho are made using molasses, distilled using column stills and aged for at least an year before being charcoal filtered and re-casked for 8 years minimum in, most likely, ex-Bourbon casks. Bacardí® 8 Year Old Premium Golden Rum has been specially crafted using selected barrel-aged rums ranging from eight to nine years old.
