About this deal

Not that all medication is toxic, but like you said, society's so quick to find a pill for something, never mind the side effects. Baby Teeth is an unexpected LGBTQ+ novel in verse; it takes elements of horror and mixes them with romance, resulting in a changeling of a book that reimagines vampire myths for the twenty-first century. During Suzette’s chapters, my heart broke as she detailed her inability to communicate with her mute daughter, Hanna. She was adopted as a small child and has only the barest memories of her mother, but the seed she carries sprouted nonetheless.

He may have become the chief of police, but he’s still trying to heal the old wound of having given the testimony that sent his best friend, Vincent King, to prison decades before. Meanwhile, the father figure remains irritatingly obtuse and the couple aids and abets their disturbed child with a total lack of discipline, absurd risk-taking, and denial of the obvious. One of the "Biggest Thrillers of the Summer"— SheReads | A Barnes and Noble Blog Best Thriller for July!

When the doctor told her mother Suzette that yet another CT scan had turned up no physical reasons for the developmental delay, he suggested that she and her husband Alex should consider consulting a child psychologist.

She didn't need any reminders of those lonely and disgusting years, of the enemy within or her own mother's deadly indifference. Following the clue up into the eaves, the couple make a gruesome discovery: their home was once a real-life murder house, with the evidence still concealed within the four walls. Getting snowed in at a luxurious, rustic ski chalet high in the French Alps doesn’t sound like the worst problem in the world.Soon, Suzette starts to fear that maybe their supposedly innocent baby girl may have a truly sinister agenda. The misshapen canyon of a scar had always bothered her, falling in a deep, wonky six-inch diagonal on the right side of her navel. I had hugely high hopes for this novel, putting it in my “most anticipated books of 2018” blog post AND predicting it being a 5 star read. When she shows up at a Montana gas station, clutching an infant and screaming for help, investigators believe she may have been abducted by a cult. I finished it, but the end was super annoying and made me wish I'd stopped sooner and not wasted 4 more hours.

Unless that company happens to be eight coworkers…each with something to gain, something to lose, and something to hide. MEET SUZETTE: Suzette loves her daughter, but after years of expulsions and strained home schooling, her precarious health and sanity are weakening day by day. Her interlocked fingers started hurting and she glanced down at them, a little surprised by how forcefully she'd been twisting them. Other reviewers mentioned being captivated, not able to look away, or being upset by the whole premise. For perfectionistic Suzette, her battle with Crohn’s and Hanna’s clearly abnormal development are particularly troubling. This puts Suzette at odds with her husband, Alex, as he rarely witnesses Hanna’s bad behavior first hand and, as such, has difficulty believing Suzette’s accounts of the things Hanna does. In “Baby Teeth,” the daughter’s oddness first becomes evident when she’s a toddler, an age at which even the most agreeable babies often turn tempestuous. Ultimately *Spoiler Alert* we never get an answer — to the question of Suzette’s culpability, at least. Nervous about what the doctor would say—how he might criticize her—she patted a jumpy rhythm on Hanna’s arm.

Hanna behaved quite lovingly in his presence, and often he saw silliness where she saw mischief, and her more-provocative antics he ascribed to intelligence. Kate Bennett vanished from a parking lot eleven years ago, leaving behind her husband and young daughter. This summer’s update, the propulsive debut novel “Baby Teeth,” by Zoje Stage, features an all-too-recognizable cast of contemporary characters: an architect dad with a hipster beard, a stay-at-home mother who opted out of work she loved to take care of her increasingly difficult daughter. I've lost track of all the tests, but she takes them, seems to think they're fun — but she won't say a word.
