About this deal

The Radleys follows a seemingly ordinary family with a dark secret that even their neighbors aren’t aware of: they’re vampires. Another chapter gives the first factual account of what really happened in the celebrated Cicero case in Ankara during the war. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). In 2007, he shared a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship with co-translator Elizabeth Williamson for their translation of Michel Azama’s play Vie et mort de Pier Paolo Pasolini (Life and Death of Pier Paolo Pasolini).

He tells Paul Kirkley about the challenge of changing career lanes – and why the first person he needed to convince was himself. The temptation to try first taste of blood only grows stronger with the arrival of Uncle Will (Lewis), Peter’s twin brother and a practicing vampire, who pulls back the curtain on his vampiric life of hedonism and freedom. Our donations to The Rainbow Centre have helped provide an education and a safe haven to hundreds of children who live in appalling conditions. I had a 48-hour lightning trip to London for fun with fan friends and a fantastic evening of music at Hoxton Hall in East End with the one and only Damian Lewis and his fabulous band. This at least the second time I have read this book which is very well written, interesting and very modest about all Nicholas Elliott achieved - not much about his involvement with Philby etc but that is rather typical of the man - and the book was probably written while he was bound by the official secrets act. Laid in is The New York Times obituary as well as a copy of a moving letter to the author's wife, Elizabeth, from Robert Greene, expressing his condolences following Elliott's death. First published 1991, reprinted 1992, (vi), 201pp, pages clean and crisp, firm binding, ink gift inscription to front free endpaper, dark blue cloth with gilt spine lettering, unclipped dust jacket with only light wear to edges.

This memoir ranges over Elliott's fascinating life and is quite entertaining and often self-deprecating. In the show, MI6 intelligence officer Nicholas Elliott (played by Lewis) is left in turmoil when he discovers his colleague and close friend Kim Philby had been working as a Soviet mole and has defected to the USSR. He discusses Philby in a chapter near the end of the book, focusing on Philby the man: his heavy drinking, his devotion to a pet fox, and his relationships with his various wives. It was such a magical night and I am ready to tell you all about how our Ginger Elvis has ruled on stage and off – he has made time for everyone, his guests and his fans, after the gig.

The song shares a title with Nicholas Elliott’s autobiography, and the quote “never judge a man by his umbrella” is also mentioned within the A Spy Among Friends show. As the axe drops, Thomas Cromwell emerges from the bloodbath to continue his climb to power and wealth, while his formidable master, Henry, settles to short-lived happiness with his third queen, Jane Seymour.
