About this deal

Bear Island is a 1979 adventure movie directed by Don Sharp and based on the novel by Alistair MacLean ( Puppet on a Chain).

It was just all a bit bizarre and far fetched and I never really cared for any of the characters so never really cared what happened to them. Certainly the producers had amassed as starry a cast as they could, with Sutherland the most famous Canadian actor around so a shoo-in for the lead ( William Shatner presumably unavailable), though he was playing an American, and Vanessa Redgrave as the team doctor and love interest for him was a Brit playing Norwegian, complete with a singularly odd accent. Drafted at 19 into the Royal Navy, he worked his way up from Ordinary Seaman to Leading Torpedo Officer while serving in the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Far East.Film rights came solely into the hands of the Canadian-born Peter Snell who had lived in England since 1961.

Alistair Stuart MacLean (1922-1987) was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and spent his growing years nearby in Daviot, ten miles south of Inverness. This censorship severely interferes with the plot, as it is crucial to the novel to understand the motives of captain Lansing.I think if we cut some of the character interaction and just played it for speed and thrills it might have made more money. The expedition arrives at Bear Island, location of a NATO base and the site of a former U-boat station, and, from his German colleagues Jungbeck and Heyter, they learn that Larsen is missing. You can also download and transfer a video you own to portable devices (iPad/iPhone/iPod) for offline viewing. During pre production, Snell announced he had the film rights to six other MacLean novels, three of them not written. This time out he’s a man with a hidden past and is on the island to uncover a family secret that involves the missing U-Boat he seeks to find.

In his case I'm on the phone regularly to him in Geneva where he lives and he's getting a kick out of it. The next morning, Lansing and Lindquist head out from the base, but are followed by Jungbeck and Heyter who have been released by Zelda. Read all Three brothers go to remote Bear Island (Bjørnøya) in the Barents Sea to find the perfect wave; travelling with a surfboard, a snowboard, a paraglider and food found in supermarket trash canisters back home in Norway. There’s a decent choice of suspects; Christopher Lee, Lloyd Bridges, Vanessa Redgrave, Barbara Parkins, Bruce Greenwood and more are all along for the ride, even if the snowsuits often conceal the identity of the potential culprits.

Bear Island is a 1979 thriller film loosely based on the 1971 novel Bear Island by Alistair MacLean. Die Bäreninsel in der Hölle der Arktis" ist ein Abenteuerfilm mit Krimiplot, dem es zu keiner Sekunde gelingt, Spannung zu erzeugen. Radio masts collapse, explosives are used to create deadly avalanches, a generator blows up, but who is the saboteur who seeks the elusive gold? Despite a better cast than most Alistair MacLean adaptations and an interesting Arctic story about Cold War struggles to dominate the globe by weather control, this fast becomes a dodo with such elements as a former U-Boat base, most of the cast's suspiciously Nazi pasts, and an array of Teutonic accents clearly destined to play a large part in the story. Not that you had much of a chance to hear it, as his character wound up vanishing early on, before even establishing himself as a possible suspect for the evildoers behind the apparent sabotage of the scientists’ investigation.
