Games with DirectStorage aren’t quite here yet, and existing games are unlikely to have any noticeable performance gains with a PCIe 5. We have now had the opportunity to test three different 2TB versions of the Crucial T700: the preproduction engineering sample that I wrote about in April and two 2TB retail versions, one with Crucial's heatsink and one without, which we tested using the motherboard's heatsink. com is a leading authority on technology, delivering lab-based, independent reviews of the latest products and services.Its Crystal DiskMark 4K (small-file) results were more sedate, with its 4K read speed falling below the average of the PCIe 4. We previewed the drive two weeks ago, and found it indeed lives up to its superlative as the world's fastest SSD. All we can test and evaluate is the hardware we have today, and on that basis the T700 earns our Editors' Choice award as a high-performance internal SSD, our first for a Gen 5 model.

I placed my slowest coolest drives here but they again they throttled without better cooling (running one drive was ok but running both drives they over heat the shared heat sink). In benchmarks, the Editors' Choice-winning T700 effectively matches its blistering throughput ratings, edging past the Gigabyte Aorus 10000 in raw speed if only by narrow margins.When it comes to measuring SSD performance, especially with this new generation, it’s more than just the raw speed. If you ever notice a large discrepancy between the performance you experience and that which we report (systems being roughly equal), by all means—let us know. But although it topped the field in the Windows loading trace, its scores in many of the other tests were only middling compared with the PCIe 4.
