About this deal

War Child”: a fierce electro-disco with stabs of percussion and wind instruments – again, a faultless track. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The Hunter is the sixth studio album by American rock band Blondie, released on May 24, 1982, by Chrysalis Records. Standout songs such as Dragonfly, Danceaway, and English Boys are as close to the classic Blondie sound as they can ever get.

At this point in their career it's obvious the band was going to break up soon enough unfortunately; I'm of the mind that believes they still had more to deliver in the early 80s, but perhaps The Hunter isn't that bad of a send off in hindsight.

With Autoamerican and, now, The Hunter, Blondie has become more difficult to enjoy, even as the group has strained to become something you can “appreciate. Hunter_ is also, at times, downright embarrassing (the awful faux-reggae of "Little Caesar" is the worst offender) and an obvious attempt to recreate past triumphs ("The Beast" falls completely flat at trying to imitate the sexy rap of "Rapture" from _Autoamerican_). For Your Eyes Only”: a cunning stylistic amalgam that could fit nicely among Parallel Lines’ reinventions of ’60s pop.

Little Caesar" is a strange little ditty, but I really have a soft spot for it because it's so unique and quirky. But compared with some of the band's previous delights and the weakness of some songs, it doesn't merit the same kind of recommendation as the likes of _Parallel Lines_.Another song that could have been made into a hit is "For Your Eyes Only," a bewitching and well-crafted melody originally penned for the 1981 Bond movie of the same name - it lost out, however, to Sheena Easton's number.

However, the album is nowhere near the utter disaster that is painted by the press and by some Blondie fans. At the least, it’ll have you wondering just how far an erstwhile New Wave pop group can row itself away from the mainstream before it finds itself out of the current altogether. English Boys" is Harry and Chris Stein's melancholy tribute to "those English boys who had long hair", the Beatles, recorded the year after John Lennon's assassination in New York City, describing the innocence and idealism of the 1960s.

The Beast" deals with lead singer Debbie Harry's experiences of becoming a public figure: "I am the centre of attraction, by staying off the streets".
