About this deal

The Hospital Club was co-founded by Paul Allen of Microsoft in 2004. After a rebrand, it is now simply the H Club. It is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and has 15 bedrooms available. It is also the only club in London with a full-on TV studio, where Top Gear: Extra Gear has been filmed.

Starting a factory is a complex, pain-in-the-arse type of thing – that’s why most brands don’t do it. So the people we really took advice from were the people running the old factory. They helped us set up, told us what to do, what not to do. We were novices and naïve; they were skilled and had done it for decades. Yeah, we spent six months doing business plans butso you know I hate business plans. I hated every minute of that six months because we had to go down to the post office and find out minute details like how much it was going to cost us to send out a pair of jeans. But, as painful as it was, knowing your numbers is really important. When you don’t know your numbers, you’re going to have to raise more and more money. It can be the difference between failure and success. It’s the place to be for royals, billionaires, A-list celebrities and socialites so expect service to be second to none with a price tag that is more reasonable than you would expect. The night club LouLous is the cherry on the cake. The original Harry’s Bar in Venice made its name inventing the bellini. Its London counterpart remains one of the most sophisticated and elegant clubs in London, if not the world. Unlike many of the entries on this list, it does not have a nightclub, a heated swimming pool, a vault load of wine, nor an MRI machine. What it does have is unquestionable class and staff that understand members like they are family – from knowing their favourite tables to their favourite food and which drinks to have chilled in anticipation of their arrival. The dress code is strictly suits and strictly adhered to, which is why the clientele love it. Far from being an old-school or stuffy establishment, it attracts many members are in their 30s and 40s who appreciate the elegance and formality.I fell in love with denim and the history of the fabric when we were doing Howies. Just like coffee is really, really geeky, so is denim. There are some really great selvedge fabric mills in Japan, which are the elite. We begged them to work with us when we were starting out and my obsession began from there. Everything about the process – from plantation denim to the original selvedge narrow looms and visiting denim factories – is just a brilliant experience for me. Its basement club Leo’s hosts the best live performances in London. Membership is worth it for access to Leo’s alone. Other than the TV studio? There’s a 36-seat screening room and the club hosts four exhibitions of contemporary artists each year.

Annabel’s is opulent, loud, over the top and has recently under gone a multi-million pound overhaul –the beautiful queen of the members club scene. No membership collection is complete without an Annabel’s mention. If you have a disposable income and are willing to spend big at every visit then this is the club for you. Boasting no fewer than five restaurants – one in a garden terrace with London’s largest retractable roof – it also has a nightclub with daily shows from the likes of James Blunt, the Gipsy Kings and Jess Glynne. Even on your 100th visit to Annabel’s, you’ll find yourself staring at something you haven’t seen before. The starting point here was rich saturated artwork and warm earth tones that felt cosy enough to relax in yet interesting enough to be entertaining. Once we established the layout for the space and realised it needed a long L-shaped sofa, we started layering fabrics and rug combinations until we found the perfect pairing. The oversized footstool was an important piece to have made as it allowed more foot rest while watching a movie as well as being used as a coffee-table surface. We also created bespoke, built-in cabinets on either side of the fireplace to help balance the space and anchor the room.Authenticity, originality, and quite possibly the experience that comes with age – what this club has in spades cannot be replicated. BESPOKE TRIPOD ARMCHAIRS: Six The Residence using Tori Murphy Scallop Stripe fabric and Fermoie fabrics Leaving a good salary is hard, so I would advise starting a business as a side project. That allows you to see two things: if you like it and if your customer wants it. Being an entrepreneur isn’t for everyone – there are stresses and strains. Sometimes people only see the upside and the glamour, not the decades of hard work. That said, while leaving a cushy job is difficult, quitting on a dream is even harder, so I would encourage you to follow your heart. A Mayfair institution, and it’s easy to see why. Harry’s Bar membership also gains you access to its brother clubs George and Mark’s Club When the original Soho House opened on Greek Street in the mid-90s, it set a standard of luxury and unlike other private members clubs was exclusively for those that worked in media industries. Apply for membership if you had a job in the city and the answer was a resounding no. Today the concept has been rolled out across the globe from Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds to Miami and to its newest London venue, White City House. But it is Little House that is the unassuming hero of the Soho House collection. It occupies one floor of a small building on a quiet corner in Mayfair and has a feeling of old fashioned glamour thanks to the mixture of new and vintage furniture, dim lighting, deep dining booths and fireside sofas. Guests can eat from the ‘little menu’ which features simple, seasonal dishes whilst listening to live music every evening from 7pm.

You’ve also successfully set up two businesses now. What advice would you give to someone who has an idea but also has life responsibilities? A members club that you can visit without being a member. This is a different kind of club and it won’t disappoint. The staff, but also the beautiful heated terrace – ideal for people watching in Mayfair over limoncello. I always need a good cup of coffee en route to Da Terra. My favourite coffee spots have to include Ozone – the team make a delicious cup and are really conscious of their sourcing of the beans. I also love The Beehive. They are such a friendly bunch, the coffee is delicious and – crucially – it's really close to my restaurant, so I go there a lot. FOR LUNCHThis is the sort of place you’d want to take your future father-in-law to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage, or the sort of place you’d like to take your daughter’s fiancé to question his plans for their future. In an old bank, 67 Pall Mall has over 520 wines available by the glass at very reasonable prices. That’s because the whole place was born from its founder’s frustration at excessive markups on wine. Even if the only thing you’re after is a place to drink after all the other bars have closed, this is fantastic value for money. Being able to ‘accidentally’ flash your Annabel’s membership card every time you open your wallet. There really is nothing else quite like it. If we sell out, people have to wait. Sometimes they’ve had to wait six months. I don’t want people to wait six months for a pair of jeans – that’s excessive – but sometimes you can’t keep up with demand and that’s just the way it is. You can't suddenly go and hire 20 more people because you have a sales spike. In a unique upstairs conservatory, the dining room was a real charm in this property, with so much natural light and extensive views across the neighbourhood. The client wanted to maintain the charm but add the comforts of a modern entertaining space. We started by replacing the flooring with a Victorian patterned green tile and cleaning up the windows, which were rotting and damaged in many places. We created a modern bar at one end using new cabinetry and dark green tiles while the rest of the dining space received new custom furniture. An oversized (long but thin) dining table to fit at least 10 people was crucial for our client.
