About this deal

This book begin with Grace Hamblin growing up as a young girl, in England, the daughter of a Beekeeper. This book follows her life as she is growing up - her friendships and first love, and her love for bees. Big wriggled in her chair like the nesting hen of her own description. “You go home now and have stern words with Trixie. Tell her she’s not to deceive you like that again. It’s important that you know where she is and who she’s with, for her safety as well as your peace of mind. You also tell her that she’s not to leave the island again for the rest of the summer and it’s nonnegotiable. You have to make it very clear, Grace. Can you do that?” It was a lovely story about love, family and relationships, but it's also a bit of a tired cliche to put the poor worker with the rich aristocrat and moan about duty and class. I enjoyed the interactions between Grace and Rufus, but I wanted more depth.

I was 75% of the way through the book before I worked out why I was slightly dissatisfied, and I emphasize the ‘slightly’. Something was missing: context. The bees are drawn beautifully, the description of bees, the beekeeping, their role in Grace’s life. I could not say the same for the World War Two strand, in which war was a distant event: the women take over work at the Hall, and they have plenty of vegetables to eat. Likewise the Seventies, lightly drawn with sweeping pencil strokes. That’s why for me, the book is a lightweight read although it examines heavyweight topics and the characterization is strong. So I guess this will be labelled as Romance Genre.

The story of the Beekeeper’s daughter is spread over the years through the lives of Grace and her daughter. The book opens up with a beautiful poem by Rudyard Kipling, The Bee-boy’s song. A perfect choice for the storyline. Grace has a close relationship with her father, Arthur. How has he influenced her? Do you think she would have married Freddie without his influence? Oh, she’s a wonderful gardener,” Belle added emphatically. “The gardens of Tekanasset were all very ordinary before she arrived from England and transformed them with her wonderful taste and expertise.”All-American Rejects Go All Out For 'Beekeeper's Daughter' Video". MTV . Retrieved 18 February 2012. Secrets are fascinating. It’s human nature to love mysteries. If there were no secrets, there’d be no novels!—and life would be very dull! She returned to England after a fifteen year absence, to spend six years in the South West of England living on Exmoor. Here, inspired by the atmosphere, beautiful scenery and the ancient history of the place, she wrote her first novel Ravens Deep. The next two books Blood & Ashes and A Memoir of Carl completed her gothic vampire trilogy.

Prior to publishing any novels, she worked in London, first in public relations for the outfitters Swaine Adeney and later for the jeweller Theo Fennell. She also worked as a shop assistant in Farmacia Santa Maria Novella, the perfumery, and in events for Ralph Lauren. Dorset, 1933: Grace Hamblin is growing up on a beautiful rural estate. The only child of the beekeeper, she knows her place and her future—until her father dies unexpectedly and leaves her bereft and alone. My struggle was with all of the relationships in the book. I didn't feel them as deeply as I would have liked which made it hard for me to understand the choices that were made throughout. There didn't seem to be enough time spent between Rufus and Grace for the feelings to be of such epic proportions. Also, I really liked Freddy which made it hard for me to swallow that relationship. There are some stories where you can somewhat understand or accept infidelity but this one wasn't easy. I also wasn't feeling the relationship between Trixie and Jasper to the extent that was needed for this story either. Grace’s and Trixie’s pasts collide in a surprising twist. What drives Trixie to uncover her mother’s past? How does Trixie confront her own past in the process? Sebag and I do bring out the best in each other. I wouldn’t have written if not for him and he might not have written books either, as he was a ladies’ man, always chasing girls, but now his home life is stable and sorted. We write in the same house, in separate offices and he helps me with plots. I think you have to be a team. Laughter is everything. Mr Darcy would have been so boring to live with—you don’t want to live with someone who is smouldering all the time. Wow, I would have to say that I am speechless, this book was utterly amazing on so many levels and I can't praise it enough.

Big’s large bosom expanded over the table at the thought of Bill Durlacher gossiping on the golf course. “Bill’s as bad as his wife,” she retorted. “But you’re right to tell Freddie. He won’t want to be the last person on the island to know.” Protagonist, Annabel Taylor, a beekeeper’s daughter, grows up wild and carefree on the moors of Exmoor, England in a cottage on the landowner’s property of Gothelstone Estate in the late 1860s. She is becoming aware of supernatural abilities inherited from her late mother, a beautiful witch. I am passionate about nature. I am at my happiest in beautiful places like forests, woods, beaches, and mountains. I think we all are. That still, silent, eternal part of nature resonates with the still, silent eternal part of us and connects us to our true natures beyond ego. When I’m in nature, all the petty worries I have dissolve and I ponder the big questions. I use nature a lot in my novels to help my characters evolve on a spiritual level. Writing about nature from my office in London makes me feel good. It’s like a meditation. If I can’t be in it, I’ll imagine that I am! I hope it uplifts or touches my readers, too. I absolutely adored this novel. I truly did. I do hope you decide to give it a read and then you can see for yourselves just how damn beautiful this story really is.

Success!

I like a little romance in a novel but cringe often in pure romance fiction. Cliches and instA-love stories make me nauseous and bore me to death. The BeeKeepers Daughter is refreshing and one of those very rare books that I may read again. When Jasper’s brother dies in a car accident, he must return to England. Jasper asks Trixie to wait for him. Grace cries when Trixie tells her the news, but for a different reason than Trixie thinks. Discuss why Grace reacts the ways she does? I only ever wish two things for my readers: to feel warm in their hearts and to love and accept love wholeheartedly. Just like her mother, Beatrix Valentine- Trixie is enthusiastic and ambitious. But ever since she met Jasper, the band member, there is nothing but a life with him in her mind. Flowers often make appearances in your books. In The Beekeeper’s Daughter, Grace is an acclaimed landscape gardener. Are you? Do you enjoy gardens?
