The strawberry layer adds a nice tang, but it’s not sharp like the raspberry layer in the Dark Chocolate Raspberry bar. Rather than balancing the sweetness, the tang almost emphasises it. Texture-wise, it’s pretty similar to the other Grenade bar flavours, except the creme offers a smoother, creamier, texture than Grenade’s usual caramel layer and the Oreo pieces are less crunchy than the crispies found on the likes of Caramel Chaos and Jaffa Quake. In terms of flavour, the white chocolate is more of a hint, but this is strawberry ice cream, so what did we expect? There’s the same nougat-y texture to the base as in the other bars. It’s smooth and chewy, with the crispies adding a satisfying crunch when you take a bite. Grenade Protein Bars should be consumed as a part of a balanced diet. Product contains more than 10g/100g polyols: excessive consumption may cause laxative effect.

How. When. Why.

It makes a nice change and it’s certainly better than the Chocolate Crunch the brand brought out a couple of years ago, but I’d go for the Fudge Brownie bar over this any day. With the Carb Killas, Grenade have managed to produce a bar which genuinely tastes like a chocolate bar. I’m not even lying, it’s amazing. Created in partnership with Oreo, this bar combines real Oreo pieces with Grenade’s tried-and-tested protein bar base.

The question is, which pin to pull? There are 12 flavours (at the time of writing) and we have 11 of them here for you today… Milk Protein (Calcium Caseinate, Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), Milk Chocolate With (Sweetener; Maltitol, Cocoa Butter, Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Mass, Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Flavours) 18.3% Gelatine Hydrolysate, Bulking Agent (Polydextrose), Humectant (Glycerol), Soy Crisps (Soy Protein, Tapioca Strarch, Salt) Soy Crisp (Soy Protein, Fat Reduced Cocoa, Tapioca Starch) Cocoa Butter, Soy Oil, Skimmed Milk Powder, Palm Fat, Sweeteners (Xylitol, Sucralose), Flavours, Fat Reduced Cocao, Salt, Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin) The base has a light, milky cocoa flavour – something Grenade hasn’t done in a while. It’s not an intense chocolate, but it shouldn’t be. The chocolate is rich, but it strikes just the right balance so as to not detract from the real star – the salted caramel.Although strong, the banana flavour isn’t overwhelming and mixes well with the chocolate and the hint of salt from the caramel. It’s a nice, chocolate-y bar but it’s interesting that Grenade decided to come out with this when their Fudge Brownie bar is such a classic. Bang on. The base is the same nougat-like centre as the rest of the bars but with a soft peanut flavour in this case. It’s certainly not a full-on peanut flavour, but it is enough to blend well with the chocolate and the peanut chunks add some extra flavour and crunch.

Once again Grenade have delivered another great bar and, to be honest, that’s all there is to say. Chocolate Chip Salted Caramel – 10/10Recently, Grenade have been nailing their flavours. White Chocolate Salted Peanut, Dark Chocolate Raspberry, and Chocolate Chip Salted Caramel have all been up there with the best of them, but I’ll admit I was skeptical about this one. Yes, Carb Killa® have gone through the Informed Sport testing process and are widely consumed by professional athletes and military personnel. Before we start, I will say it smells amazing – very strong strawberry and buttery (honestly) white chocolate.
