About this deal

Personal: B+ (Really nice to run in, but with it being so soft I typically only can do 1, maybe 2, runs per week without soreness in my ankle stabilizers) Most runners would attest to the merits of this shoe, so the New Balance Fuelcell Rebel V2 ended up being the surprise break-out hit of 2021-22. The Liberate Nitro is also lighter and delivers similar performance benefits, thanks to the soft and responsive Nitro foam. The lightweight upper has a deconstructed, racer-like fit for high-speed training.

Based on internet chatter, New Balance is going to completely overhaul the Rebel for its third outing. For a change, we’re actually looking forward to a shoe receiving its annual update. SHOES SIMILAR TO THE NEW BALANCE FUELCELL REBEL V2 DPT/Footwear Science: A (Foam is new, and taking something so soft and making it functional is neat to see with the mechannics of the shoe) The shoe can certainly handle workouts and I've taken this shoe from everything from 4:30 mile pace through 8 minute miles. The shoe does seem to do the best somewhere in the middle with more workout like efforts. For some this could be a good shoe that can double with training and racing if they don't want multiple pairs of shoes or have financial restrictions. There are some sidewalls through the midfoot and sole flaring in the forefoot which do help with some stabilization of the soft platform. So where do we see the Fuelcell Rebel V2 fit into a shoe rotation? Can this be the one shoe to do it all? It certainly has the potential, so its fragile build quality is disappointing.

However, if you’re recovering from Plantar Fasciitis or are generally injury-prone, we don’t recommend buying the Rebel V2. With 30 mm of soft FuelCell foam underfoot, the Rebel v2 offers runners ample protection from the impact of the roads. As a lightweight trainer, this shoe is not necessarily the best long-distance companion, but our testers are confident that runners will comfortably enjoy distances around the half-marathon mark. The new NDURANCE outsole also gives the Rebel v2 improved traction that should instill a lot of confidence while out on the roads. Personal: A (Really lightweight, protective, bouncy, and responsive. This is a shoe I really like doing strides in, road workouts, long runs, etc.) New Balance has worked its magic, balancing the softness and responsiveness of the Rebel's FuelCell midsole almost perfectly. These highly versatile lightweight trainers can push the pace and offer an impressive energy return for a non-plated shoe. As a shoe reviewer, one of the most common questions I get is from runners asking me for suggestions to replace their beloved Nike Pegasus Turbo which has now been discontinued.

The cushy properties of the foam are easily accessible at any speed without any mushiness. The lightweight foam is lively as it gets. A 10 min/mile (6 min/km) pace feels just as doable as a spirited 7 min/mile (4:30 min/km) speed. Over longer distances, the 204 gram/7.2-ounce weight makes for easy wear. The Rebel is easily capable of going half-marathon distances and beyond. The super critical, nitrogen infused FuelCell provides really good energy return and makes it feel like a super foam. It’s not as bouncy as ZoomX but more bouncy than Hyper Burst, DNA Flash and Pwrrun PB. The Rebel v2’s midsole is highly compressible which makes it one of the softest shoes I’ve tested all year. It doesn’t have a lot of cushioning depth compared to a 1080v11 or a Clifton 7 but the foam feels more squishy. After 50 miles, the outsole seems to be doing okay. Even though it is soft, the flexible design spreads the wear and tear evenly.

Fit: A (Very dialed in throughout, wider toe box is very nice and comfortable, mesh is breathable and lightweight while still being comfortable for a training shoe, pull tab is really the only thing and that isn't a deal breaker) Each one of our New Balance FuelCell running shoes in the range offers subtly distinct performance characteristics, allowing you to select a model that perfectly matches your running style and goals. For a comfortable, well-cushioned ride – look no further than the New Balance rebel v2 (FuelCell), up for training runs and intense runs alike. Every piece has its iterations. Adding to the collection came with careful consideration, if it wasn’t adding to the racing experience then it had no place. Step forward the FuelCell SC Elite v3, it complements the midsole’s super springy rebounds with the dynamic energy return and stability of our Energy Arc system and a full-length carbon plate. Every aspect of its design is developed to deliver PB-busting race day speed. Meanwhile, the New Balance FuelCell Propel v3 offers exceptional day-to-day performance courtesy of lightweight uppers. If you’re after a versatile all-purpose runner that’s allows you to experience the high-rebound performance of FuellCell technology, then this is the collection for you. For me, the Rebel v2 functions best as a daily trainer for middle distances at easy/steady paces between 4.30 and 5.30 per kilometre. It has a super soft, smooth ride with good energy return that makes it fun to run in.Just like the first version, the Rebel V2 is an excellent running shoe for forefoot strikers. There’s plenty of deep cushioning to tap into, and the wide midsole provides a reliable foundation to land and launch from. Our speed running shoes are just as innovative, and are powered by REVlite cushioning and lightweight solid rubber outsoles. New Balance Running Shoes: The History The New Balance Rebel v3 is one of those trainers that just keeps getting better and better with each update. New Balance said that their goal with the new version was to make it appeal to a wider group of runners, to make it 10 – 15% more democratic. Our initial reservations about the grip quality were dispelled by the on-road performance. The flat lugs offer excellent traction, including damp roads.
