About this deal

The C845 covers the majority of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, reaching 95%. However, the colours aren’t as accurate as we’d like, with red, blue and magenta (which is composed of red and blue) all oversaturated compared to their target points. This is probably due to the C845 pushing its brightness to such a high degree, although many will probably like the added pop. Brightness levels as high as those delivered by the 65C845K have the potential to leave colours looking rather thin and bleached if they’re not accompanied by a wide gamut panel. Which is why it’s good to find the 65C845K continuing to make a nonsense of its price by sporting a Quantum Dot colour system that should be capable of handling high luminance levels without desaturating much more effectively than traditional RGB filters. While not quite as exceptional as its pictures, the C845K’s sound is still much better than we would expect with such an affordable TV. It has got bags of volume, for starters, getting way louder than most TVs in its class while also managing to use that volume to create a sound stage much larger than the physical proportions of the TV.

The TCL C641K is designed to be wall-mountable, providing flexibility in placement and saving space in your living room. The television is compatible with VESA-standard wall mounts, allowing for easy installation on a wall. The VESA mount ensures a secure and stable attachment, keeping the TV in place. Wall mounting the TCL C641K not only adds a sleek and minimalist look to your room but also allows for better positioning and optimal viewing angles, enhancing your overall viewing experience. Calibration We found little need for color adjustment, but kept an eye on the motion settings, which allow control of blur and judder reduction on scales of 0 to 10. The upper settings of these introduced the excessively clean ‘video’ look where you’re seeing more interpolated frames than real ones. But the lowest settings, as selected automatically in ‘Movie’ mode, produced notable judder over long panning shots, or where cinematography was less than perfect. A quite high 6 or 7 for both settings was a compromise across material, with the Clear LED Motion toggle also activated, as this seemed to minimize any pasty video effect and deliver the most accurate color palette. With most out of the box niggles with the 65C845K’s pictures fixable via the picture set up menus, the fact that the 65C845K leaves a little wiggle room for much more expensive Mini LED TVs to claim a picture quality advantage, though, in truth barely detracts at all from the simple fact that its pictures are almost stupidly good for its money. Sound Quality

While the TCL C641K focuses on delivering impressive visuals, it focuses on audio. It features advanced audio technologies to create a captivating soundstage. The television supports Dolby Atmos, which provides immersive and multi-dimensional audio. This technology enhances the depth and detail of sound, making you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. The built-in speakers produce clear and well-balanced audio, eliminating the need for external sound systems in most cases. Remote Control I also like the way TCL has integrated the TV’s set-up menus alongside the Android TV interface. It’s definitely more straightforward to negotiate than the Android implementation of Sony’s latest TVs.So this year, brightness is up, of course: HDR brightness goes from 1500 nits in last year’s specs to 2000 nits this year. We gather the full white brightness is 800 nits (impressive, especially considering the current 900 Series tops out at around 500) with peaks up to 2200 nits.

produces a decent image within the TV's capabilities, that will please the vast majority of general users The C81 QLED achieves a surprising amount of punch with HDR from its 539-nit peak light output. Sunny daylight sequences in 4K Blu-rays display with substantially more brightness and luminance than they do with their HD, SDR equivalents. They’re not as daylight-like as they are on premium HDR TVs, of course, but there’s definitely some HDR impact. There are plenty of miniLED solutions that mainly have the same features, but slightly different brightness and HDR tone mapping on offer. As well as being a potential function of its direct LED lighting engine, the 65C845K’s chunkiness also provides space for a large rear-mounted subwoofer arrangement that forms part of an Onkyo-designed 2.1 speaker system.

Wrapping up the set’s truly impressive feature count are a 70W, 2.1-channel speaker system with a hefty ‘floating’ subwoofer designed with the audio gurus at Onkyo; TCL’s AIPQ 3.0 processor that draws on AI/machine learning to enhance picture performance; and the Google TV smart system.

3D Stereo Enjoyment

The 65C845K’s sound is as aggressive as its pictures – which is mostly a very good thing. Its 70W of power is given full rein to pump out seriously loud, cinematic volume levels by integrated TV sound system standards. The volume is joined by decent projection, too, to create a sound stage that spreads way beyond the physical boundaries of the TV’s bodywork. The subwoofer on the TCL 65C845K’s rear panel contributes an impressive amount of bass by TV sound system standards. The only notable absentee in app terms is Apple TV (although Sony is the only Android TV-using brand to offer that so far). TCL's claims actually turn out to be conservative, though, as we measured more than 2,300 nits on a white HDR window covering 10 per cent of the screen. That's more - way more - than you get from LCD TVs costing thousands more, and way more than we've seen from any OLED TV. Even the new Micro Lens Array models, like the LG G3. On the operating system side of things, TCL TVs use the Google TV interface in 2023 (unlike some previous years where Android OS was the main OS system for TCL models in the UK).
