About this deal

But – it’s not my type of game, and it wasn’t that rare game that shines through for me in spite of that. Part of the fun for some party games is when you have people who don’t know each other too well or (even better) live on either side of the pond. The next match has you immediately savvier, slyer, weaving around words like a snake around rocks, trying your best to veer in the weirdest direction you can when you think your enemies are on your tail. There is no reward for a correct guess but an incorrect one will earn you a miscommunication token, get two of these and your team loses. If both teams win in the same round, the tokens turn into points, with Interceptions worth +1 and Miscommunication worth -1 to determine the winning team.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I’ve never thought I’d have to explain to someone how oil is obviously, indisputably associated with Texas. If you're looking for a party game that combines teamwork, deduction and word play then you can't go wrong with Decrypto. In this, however, you’re flipping the sheet over a LOT, so you can’t use your downtime to study what your opponents’ clues are.

If you attempt this (your teammates don't even have to succeed in guessing your clues correctly), you immediately get a laser drive token.

Instead, skip that and go for the final tiebreaker — whichever team can guess more of the other team’s Keywords wins! You and your fellow decryptors split into two teams, meaning you’ll need at least four souls to play. If you are looking for a real challenge (and to kick in the “We think we know your keyword” mechanism), you use the modifier to describe ALL of your keywords that round. The opposing team takes records of the whole exchange so now they know word 4 has something to do with sand, word 1 has something to do with scooting, etc. Each team is given a code screen (pictured below) and 4 cards numbered 1 through 4 with a single word printed on their faces.Simple structure, infinite variance, consistently mounting tension throughout sessions, and satisfying payoffs. If your team can hop onto it, you can totally bamboozle your opponents if you can string together the right set of clues (or a seemingly random set). One nice thing about this is that there can just be a plethora more Keywords; I’d love to see themed packs, and, similar to Codenames, it doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to make themed packs.

It was the winner of the 2019 UK Games Expo Best Party Game People's Choice Award [11] and the 2019 Årets spill Best Party Game Award. At the beginning of the round, a player from each team picks a card with the 3 digit code and gives clues to help their teammates figure out the number before the non-proverbial and completely literal sand timer runs out. The goal then, is obviously to send information that's clear to your team but unclear to the opposing team, so that they can't build a simple table that gives them a good idea of your decryption. I will say that’s one thing it’s definitely got over Codenames; I don’t have to lay out a 25-card grid to get it started up. There are others eavesdropping on your messages, and if they can decrypt your clues, well, you’re going to be in an extremely bad way.
