Khan: Empire of Silver But neither sees that their true enemy is Henry Tudor, now grown into a man. While in England, Margaret becomes a very faithful and loyal wife to Richard, who is ailing. The Duke of York, Richard, has long eyed the throne of England, and finds ways to plot against the King. York's leadership in France is taken away and given to William de la Pole, who tries in vain to defend the French land. Bettinger, Brendan (26 June 2013). "17 Again Director Burr Steers Will Depict a Teenage Julius Caesar in Emperor: Young Caesar". Collider . Retrieved 26 May 2010.

Hero: So that part is sorta debatable. I'm not entirely certain there is a hero in this book. Too many players. However the spymaster is a good place to start. He's obvs got a humor part to play as well as the machinations of getting sh!t done.

Setting up the series, this uses history as the basis for its story, as a great amount of research has obviously gone into the work. Establishing the location, it also goes some way towards building upon the atmosphere and the general ambiance of the world overall. It also works at putting all the principal characters into place too, like pieces on a chess-board, setting the tone for the novels to follow.

King Henry, the Lion of England is long dead, and his son Henry VI coming of age and taking the throne in AD 1437. I guess I was expecting more? I read from someone that ito it was his best book to date whilst others haven't like it at all. Me - It's a slow burner for sure & like a fire it fizzles & spits occasionally & then on goes a big log..... will it take & blaze away OR will it jus fizzle out.....?After completing the fourth book in the Emperor series, Iggulden began research for his next series of books, titled Conqueror, based on the life of Mongol warlords Genghis, Ogedai, and Kublai Khan. The first book, Wolf of the Plains, was published on 2 January 2007. The second, Lords of the Bow, came out a year later. Bones of the Hills, the third book in the series, was released on 1 September 2008. In September 2010, Empire of Silver, which revolves around the life of Genghis Khan's son, Ogedai, was published. Anyways the whole point of that rambling jaunt through the convoluted world of European Dynastic Gymnastics was to point out that I, as a Military Historian, have admired the ability of the Plantagenet Kings of England to embody the English concept of "Battle King". And boy were there some great ones- Henry II, Richard I (the Lion Hearted), Edward I (Longshanks, 'The Hammer of the Scots'), and Edward III all were truly warriors of tremendous skill and fearsome physical attributes compared to even other noble Houses of the age. In all the varied tomes I've come across this Plantagenet name and its attendant "Battle Kings" I keep running across people who remark on their large and powerful frames. Kings though they may be it is unwise to judge the Kings of this time by the modern standards. These were truly gifted warriors and woe be unto you in these times if you lined up against them in battle.

I thought this book was historical fiction writing at its best. War of the Roses: Margaret of Anjou is the middle book of Conn Iggulden's trilogy and it is outstanding. It can be read as a stand alone and is really much better than the first one of the series. Iggulden's expertise is writing about battles and making them come alive as he did on his excellent Genghis Khan series. You won't find the romantic scenes of Phillipa Gregory's much inferior series on the same subject. I would think) in Conn Iggulden's superb history of the Wars of the Roses. THE EPIC HISTORICAL NOVEL FROM BESTSELLING AUTHOR CONN IGGULDEN - FANS OF GAME OF THRONES AND WOLF HALL WILL BE HOOKEDHis wife, the fiercely Queen Margaret of Anjou is doing everything she can to ensure that her husband's interest are protected, and her son Edward will know the love of his father one day.
