Released in 2004 and designed for professional use in clubs, it featured real-time digital video scratching, looping and instant hot cueing. It was similar in size to the CDJ-100S, however features such as MP3 playback capabilities and loop functions were added or improved. Also when scratching, I found that the XDJ-1000 would sometimes take a moment longer than I’d expected to start playing again. Despite the slight annoyances with Slip Mode, we’re extremely pleased with the XDJ-1000’s looping system, which gives us DVS levels of convenience and control without the need for a laptop. The tempo fader cap does have a small piece of plastic missing and there are light scratches by the direction switch and on the jog wheel.

A bearing is missing from the jog wheel assembly which I do not have a picture of but doesn’t affect the jog wheel.

The XDJ-1000 also benefits from the much-loved Slip Mode, which lets you create loops, use the reverse button, manipulate the jog wheel and so on without upsetting the flow of the track. The problem with previous CD players was that there wasn't that hands-on feel of spinning records on a turntable. We’ve had a word with Pioneer about this and it said this was probably due to the “Autoload Hot-cues…” switch not being set on the Rekordbox app.

The buttons are backlit orange for the loop and green for the cues while the re-loop button is now also backlit. The DVJ-1000 was a digital turntable capable of playing back video data on DVDs, as well as CD-Audio, and MP3 audio on both CDs and DVDs. If a loop was enabled at 02sec, for example, and leave it for 1 minute, this would then disengage the loop, jumping to 1:02 as if the user had never engaged the loop.
