Vamping Out: The Undead Creations of Greg Cannom– We get a look at the make-up used in the movie as well as some history from Cannom and his career. Also today, Stephen has taken a look at Anthony Mann’s The Naked Spur (1953) on Blu-ray from MGM via the Warner Archive Collection. Deleted Scenes (SD, 12 minutes) - There are 18 scenes in all, and most quite short. There are no major sequences excised, but of interest is a better set-up for the Edward Hermann character, a subplot involving a summer job for Jason Patric, and an extended sex scene that's even less erotic than the one in the film.
EnglishSDH, French, GermanSDH, ItalianSDH, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish( less) Sam (Corey Haim) and his older brother Michael (Jason Patric) move to Santa Carla with their mother (Dianne Wiest). Sam falls into the Boardwalk comic book crowd with the wonderfully earnest Frog Brothers (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander). Meanwhile, Michael falls under the spell first of the beautiful Star (Jami Gertz) and then the uber-charismatic David (Kiefer Sutherland), camply supported by his fantastically hirsute band of teen runaways. Who just so happen to be vampires…
What people are saying about The Lost Boys (35th Anniversary 4K Restoration)
For this UHD edition, the same set of bonus features are ported over and contained on the Blu-ray, but the audio commentary is shared between both discs. The Lost Boys was shot anamorphically on 35mm film with the Panavision Panaflex Gold camera and E-series Lenses. It’s been granted a new 4K restoration for this release, although details of what was involved in this are scant on the ground. The disc however offers up a native 3840 x 2160p resolution image with an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 (which matches the film’s theatrical aspect ratio) that uses 10-bit video depth, High Dynamic Range (HDR10 only) and is encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec There’s another classic horror movie coming to 4K, Warner Bros are releasing The Lost Boys 4K UHD + Blu-ray this September in the United Kingdom.
This is a stellar upgrade from the previous blu ray and the film sparkles with its 4k presentation and I’ve seen this film countless times but this surpasses every release by miles and felt I was watching it for the first time. Stunning 💀 Cast: Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Corey Haim, Edward Herrmann, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Dianne Wiest Multi-Angle Video Commentary– Haim, Feldman and Jaimson Newlander offer up a 20 minute segment on some multi-angles of the film via the oft-used “angle” button your control. The Lost Boys 4K Video
Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire. Sam and his older brother Michael are all-American teens with all-American interests. But after they move with their mother to peaceful Santa Carla, California, things mysteriously begin to change. Michael's not himself lately, and Mom's not going to like what he's turning into.
The Lost Boys' receives a first-ever high-res mix on Blu-ray, with a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround (48kHz/16-bit) presentation. It's perfectly fine, if not providing nearly as much of an improvement as the video. However by also cleverly focussing on the seductive aspects of life as a Lost Boy – do what you want, go where you want, take what you want, BE what you want….. – it brilliantly doubled up as teenage wish fulfilment on an epic level at the exact same time. David is the true legacy of The Lost Boys…. a brilliantly crafted poster boy for the 1980s - charisma flowing through his veins instead of blood, an attitude that burnt out of him like wildfire and those cheekbones that made everyone want to either be him or be with him, regardless of gender or sexuality. One of cinema’s coolest characters, he looms large over the film and the era, even with his fairly limited screentime. As of right now, the U.S. release will include two discs - one in 4K Ultra HD and the other a Blu-ray disc, both harnessing the power of the top-tier resolution and audio that we’ve come to expect with 4K re-releases. No extras have been announced at this time, but hopefully, they’ll be added as we get closer to the date. The Lost Scenes– Fifteen minutes of deleted scenes are included, though with no commentary or context – they’re a bit disjointed. Vampires Photo Gallery (SD, 10 minutes) - A surprisingly robust gallery with over 78 stills. This is edited as a single 10-minute montage, so there are no interactive navigation options or any upgrade for Blu-ray.Memorable Movie Quote: "No. I just like to read the TV Guide. Read the TV Guide, you don't need a TV." What wins the day here is the tight script and impeccable performances from each and every actor. The script isn’t without contrivance but is confident in it’s tone and it’s execution, blending very organic humour and horror seamlessly. The cast are all pitch perfect. This film cemented the careers of many of them, started the love affair with filmgoers of the time with ‘the two Corey’s’ and flung the likes of Sutherland into superstardom. All well deserved to boot. Haim shows serious comedic charisma and Sutherland intensity and wisdom beyond his years (rather fitting for a vampire). Recent divorcee Lucy drives her two teenaged boys, Michael ( Jason Patric) and Sam ( Corey Haim) into Santa Carla, the sign stating it to be ‘the murder capital of the world’, to begin afresh. Soon, after they arrive they start to discover why. Mom gets a job at Max’s ( Edward Hermann) video store, Sam befriends a couple of Stallone wannabes, the Frog brothers, from the comic shop ( Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander) who believe in monsters and Michael follows a gorgeous young woman named Star ( Jami Gertz), only to discover she’s attached to a group of Biker’s led by the mysterious David ( Kiefer Sutherland). Michael, unable to resist the lure of Star, is pulled into the biker gang life and after drinking from some weird wine bottle David offers him, starts to change in personality and temperament.
