About this deal

Once upon a time, history was written by men, for men and about men. Women were deemed less important, their letters destroyed, their stories ignored. a b c Bromwich, Kathryn (30 October 2017). "From Dirty John to Mogul and the Guilty Feminist: best podcasts of 2017 part 2". The Guardian. ISSN 0261-3077 . Retrieved 3 November 2017. In this special episode Deborah sits down with the inspirational Kate Bedding, a learning and development manager for the British Red Cross crisis and emergency response team. They chat about the vital work Kate and The British Red Cross do across the country – and the world – when crisis strikes, and what really happens in those high-pressure moments. Thank you to the British Red Cross for making this happen. Together we are the world's emergency responders. Whilst reading this book I massively related to the section about rap music, so came up with my own example; "I'm a Feminist but I love rap and hip-hop music that regularly refers to women as bitches, hoes, whores and sluts". This book made me understand that the enjoyment of this doesn't necesarily make me a "bad feminist", and although many of these lyrics are mysogynistic I can still enjoy this style of music that makes me feel like a badass bitch. I believe in the resistance as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow unless there is also light.

Cal Wilson was cruelly snatched from us on 10 October 2023. Repeating this episode is our tribute to her. Elsewhere, Frances-White makes cases for everything from the fun of makeup, to it not necessarily being better if little girls dress up as Spider-Man instead of Elsa from Frozen (“There is an implication that male traits are better than female ones”), through to “bridezillas” constituting a power grab (but only because most men aren’t remotely interested in wedding preparations?), and how perhaps a well-expressed catcall signifies a celebration of female fertility, when men are “fertile until they die”. This is the story of women who went to war, women who stopped war and women who stayed at home. The rulers. The fighters. The activists. The writers. It’s a rallying call to feminist activism and intersectional feminism in general. She has included some thoughtful interviews of the topics of fat positivity, race, disability, and gender diversity. An easy 5 stars and a book I could glean new insights from the more I re-read it. Had a fantastic day… If you’re a (feminist) woman or non-binary person who wants to work on being able to occupy space, to use your voice and make yourself hear, this is a fantastic chance to do so.” – Reubs Walsh

Brims with facts and inspiring women you might not have heard of but are now glad you have ... [Deborah Frances-White's] mixture of wit, fallibility and inclusivity is immensely appealing ... The book emboldens women to find their voice, to say no more often, yes less, and to demand more than the 75p in the pound they get paid compared with men. Her genius for satire is what makes her voice so sonorous - her Open Letter from the Gentlemen of Hollywood, a riposte to the Weinstein saga, is worth the cover price alone. I’m thrilled to announce we are bringing Big Speeches to you! From the comfort of your home you can take our course that will boost your confidence and help you take your space in any room. As always we work with the breath, the body and the voice but we are also asking new questions… How can we be charismatic online? How do we build or restore confidence after these unprecedented times? How do we engage with people in space again without fear? Barbara Ellen, Observer A passionate, funny, fresh, thought-provoking read, as engaging as it's informative From government policy and medical research, to technology, workplaces, and the media. Invisible Womenreveals how in a world built for and by men we are systematically ignoring half of the population, often with disastrous consequences. Caroline Criado Perez brings together for the first time an impressive range of case studies, stories and new research from across the world that illustrate the hidden ways in which women are forgotten, and the profound impact this has on us all. Kings Place, 15 January 2024: https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/the-guilty-feminist-15-jan/Kings Place, 19 February 2024: https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/the-guilty-feminist-19-feb/Australia/New Zealand 2024 dates coming soonThank you to our amazing Patreon supporters.
