About this deal

I used salted butter to sauté the onions, but you can use any oil you like or skip this step and just throw the onions in with the potatoes to cook OR if you are using crispy bacon to top your soup, you can replace the butter with 1-2 Tablespoons of bacon grease. Glass is generally sturdier and less likely to get scratched. Most glass jugs and some of the tougher plastic ones are also dishwasher-safe. Another negative is the blender glass container is VERY HEAVY . The electronics of the built in soup maker is attached to the bottom of the glass. It is heavy lifting the blender top to pour out a liquid/concoction, or to clean it, if you wash it in the sink. Also you have to be careful not to get the electronic bottom of the glass part wet. There is a way to clean the glass container while it stays on the blender, but I have not done that yet. Another great option at the pricey end of the scale. The Vitamix A2500i is one of the most powerful blenders that we tested. It has a 1200-1400W motor that made light work of whatever we threw at it.

At ninety-nine, the Amaste MR-01 RED is the best hot and cold blender for the budget. Despite the low pricing, it’s still powerful and versatile that you can use it to make almost any blend recipe you can think of. More on that, the blender uses a glass jar, which is much better, compared to plastic, when blending hot ingredients. It also does come with a tamper to help you push the stubborn foods into the blades without having to stop the motor. If you want to have more control over the length of time and texture of your recipe. For example, if you have a soup or sauce that doesn’t need to cook for the 30 minutes that the Auto-IQ program is set to, you can choose the length of time that you want. You can press the PULSE button during the manual cook mode to give the ingredients a stir around if required.

Programmes and Features

When the potatoes are nice and soft, you can mash them with a potato masher or for a creamy potato soup without chunks, use an immersion blender.

Glass blenders are pricier and give off that "high-end" aesthetic. Since glass is heavier than plastic, glass blenders won't always be the easiest to handle — especially when it comes to cleaning. (And let's not forget how easily glass can shatter!) But glass blenders won't retain odours or stains as easily as their plastic counterparts. And if you intend to make soups, glass is the way to go since it's heat-resistant. Which blender is best for smoothies? Having a KitchenAid mixer has become something of a status symbol, but if you don't have much use for their stand mixer, you can still buy into the brand with the Artisan K400 blender. It’s available in a range of glossy colours and looks impressive, which means it's one of the best engagement gifts or the best wedding gifts you could give to a couple that loves cooking.

In the inner pot, sauté the onions and celery with butter over medium heat until they are translucent in color. If you are making crispy bacon for your toppings, you can use the bacon grease instead of butter. However, it’s not just noise suppression that made this blender an asset when we reviewed it– it’s also the breadth of programmes, versatility and efficiency. In the box you’ll find a good-sized two-litre jug with a lid that clips firmly into place, a 700ml cup with removable blades and a lid that you can use to blend shakes or smoothies, tamper, spatula, and a sleek silver base unit. It is one of the most powerful blenders we tested at 1600W but this also meant that while on the maximum speed setting it was rather loud. The extra power and noise come with capacity, though - this model has one of the largest capacity jugs at 1.8 litres which is good if you often make more than two servings. To compare each blender, we’ve spent hours in the kitchen preparing bowlfuls of mayonnaise while blending pineapple, spinach, and Greek yogurt into a smoothie. As well as assessing how smooth the sauce and smoothie are, we’re also looking for ingredients that are well-combined without any curdling and whether there is residue trapped under the blade or if the elements have leaked from the base lid during blending. Performance: Most importantly, we assessed how well each blender performed at blending brittle, hard ice, as well as soft fruits and smoothies, both in terms of the time taken and the final product. In addition, we looked at how noisy they were.

Food processors take things even further; they boast sharper blades than blenders, meaning that as well as completing everything from pureeing to crushing ice, they are also adept at chopping finely and maintaining more texture. You’ll need this if you fancy trying your hand at pesto, for example. When it comes to glass versus plastic, it's all a matter of preference. Plastic blenders tend to be cheaper, so they're the budget-friendly choice. They're also more lightweight so if you like to take your smoothies with you to the office or gym, a plastic blender will be your best bet. During testing, our reviewer Helen thought that the Magimix Power Blender was a little pricey given that it didn't come equipped with any accessories like personal blending cups. The small recipe booklet that comes with the Ninja is great for getting to grips with the machine and understanding the capabilities. My recommendation would be to start with a few of these recipes to give yourself an idea on what else you can make in the Ninja. Is It Easy To Clean?

…and so much more!

The Tefal Perfectmix Cook Blender is great at blitzing up a smoothie, but it can also do so much more. The base conceals a heating element, so whizzing up a soup using this blender is a breeze! The heating function can also be utilized to steam foods and for the cleaning preset. You’ll get more use out of a blender that’s easy to clean, so look for those where all the removable parts are dishwasher safe. Some blender jugs will split apart so that the blades can be safely cleaned separately and more thoroughly. If the jug has fixed blades, it can be difficult to clean around them by hand, so always use a brush. Our how to clean a blender guide has more tips. Are blenders noisy? A final reason to love it is its frozen food and ice-crushing abilities – it transformed cubes into snow in about 30 seconds (the programme lasts a minute), which was easily scraped out. The only downside is the price – but if other blenders are leaving you disappointed or deafened, the Super Q is a superhero solution.
