About this deal

This set was provided for review by The LEGO Group but the review represents an expression of my own opinions. Villains frequently accompany these superhero sanctuaries and two such minifigures appear here. Venom has remained unaltered since 2019 and seems suitably fearsome, featuring an intimidating head with bared teeth. The torso design is comparatively simple but matches the character's traditional comic appearance and I see little justification for alterations. The accompanying video game screen displays Spider-Man swinging through New York City. Certain aspects of the design resemble the recent PlayStation 4 game, although not perfectly. Five varying Spider-Man suits appear beside the video game, including one which is enlarged and reminds me of the original Spider-Man minifigure from 2002. However, the most intriguing example is the Bombastic Bagman costume! Huh. I'd always known Kingpin as being a Daredevil villain (in fact, the only Daredevil villain I could name off the top of my head). Looking through his rogues gallery, the only other ones that I've even heard of (who aren't borrowed from Spiderman, or aren't generally considered to be hero or anti-hero characters in their own right) are Deadshot-I-mean-Bullseye, Tombstone, and Typhoid Mary. And mostly I just know them by name. The classic Iron Spider suit has appeared in various Marvel Super Heroes sets, although this example remains unchanged from 76151 Venomosaurus Ambush. The intricate armour design and metallic gold decoration looks splendid, especially with the supplementary articulated arms. However, the decoration does not continue on the legs and I would have favoured another new Spider-Man variant to replace this one.

Giving Spider-Man a lair feels like a pretty solid premise. Peter Parker technically had a defunct one in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the LEGO Group has shown it’s not averse to taking its cues from the highly-acclaimed animated movie. Plus, it makes for a nice change from the armada of pointless vehicles the web-slinger has been saddled with over the past few years. Unfortunately, it almost completely fails in its execution.

Features

Off to the left side of the Lair is a built-in skate ramp. I’m not sure why it’s attached to the main build, as it would have worked just as well as a stand-alone play feature.

I wouldn't expect to see Kingpin in a Spiderman set _unless_ it also included Daredevil, as that's really the only way I can see them producing a Daredevil minifig." Spider-Man’s lair shares plenty of DNA with 2019’s 76122 Batcave Clayface Invasion, from its central multi-screened computer terminal to its side sections, prison cell and vehicles. But everything’s much smaller here, and far more junior by comparison: it’s built across a single level, the bulk of the size is created by a handful of huge parts, and the whole thing just comes across as half-hearted.Join all your favourite goodies (and baddies!) with LEGO Superhero sets - there's Thanos, The Joker, Lex Luthor, DC Comics and Marvel superheroes ready to build and recreate all the best scenes. There is also LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Ninjago, both bursting with awesome characters and adventure. I highly implore you to look through the decals yourself, as they have great details strewn throughout, but Spider-Man’s suit that is being analysed has leg printing, but the suit he is wearing does not? This does mean that both the suit being analysed, as well as the Spider-Man in the video game, don’t correlate to the physical Spider-Man that we get and I feel like that is a missed opportunity. However, I think this computer could have been further separated from Batcomputer designs, simply by adjusting the screen arrangement. This configuration seems extremely familiar and Spider-Man deserved something tailored more specifically to him. The seat seems very basic too, although some appealing details are present. Peter Parker's camera and the video game controller are particularly fun.

He is a bigtime Spiderman villain. Daredevil as well, but that’s what you get when you both operate in NYC. He is one of the most important crime bosses overthere. Spiderman did team-up with Daredevil too to fight the crimebosses and the gangster wars were among the coolest stories with a lot of team-ups and villains.

Encourage roleplay and spark imaginations with LEGO playsets

Moving on to the middle of the lair, Spider-Man has his supercomputer where he can sit down and surf….the WEB. Even if that was out of the question, swapping out Venom for just one brand new villain would also have sweetened the deal. Or even Green Goblin, who we’ve had several times before, even if this is a new version. As it is, there are only really two minifigures here worth your time – at least if you own any other Spider-Man sets. If this is your one and only, well, let’s face it: there are way better options for your first dive into the Spider-verse. — Price — Apparently there are a few other Batman rogues with fairly regular appearances. I see ten minifig-based sets for Riddler, nine for Mr. Freeze, and eight for Catwoman. Even Poison Ivy ties Venom with seven. To add insult to injury, one of the monitors makes a reference to the Super Fantastic Four Costume (perhaps better known as The Bombastic Bagman), a disguise Peter Parker was forced to don after Reed Richards (or Mr. Fantastic) separated him from the alien symbiote, leaving him to swing home without a costume. A physical version of that outfit would have been a perfect addition here, and giving us our first and only Fantastic Four costume as part of a different character sounds exactly like the kind of frustrating thing the LEGO Group would do anyway.

As the Goblin-glider is foot-and-balance controlled in the comics, I have no complaints about there not being any obvious control surfaces for the Green Goblin minifigure to operate. I’m also happy to see a “classic” version of these designs, rather than going with any of the live-action versions. Spider-Man’s spectacular headquarters measure over 5 in. (14 cm) high, 16 in. (41 cm) long and 6 in. (17 cm) wide and combine easily with other LEGO® Marvel Spider-Man sets. Young superheroes join Spider-Man playing games in his HQ. When 2 super villains force their way in, it's time for battle. Kids must use the amazing equipment and their own skills to save the day. There are six minifigures in the box, which sounds pretty good for a Marvel set. And, to its credit, three of them are brand new and exclusive: the ‘Big Time’ variant of the Stealth Spider-Suit from Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 (the set description refers to a ‘PlayStation’ among Pete’s many monitors, but there’s no physical game console), a fresh take on Green Goblin, and – more interestingly – what appears to be Ben Reilly, a Peter Parker clone known in-universe as Scarlet Spider.

The Completed Model

I think this critique could be handed out for almost any Superhero set, considering the city is their environment, and barring the few sets that are inexpensive, Its hard to make a playground like that, especially for Spidey in NY. ]]
