About this deal

All NAS drives can be accessed locally over the network, as well as secure remote access is possible with brand supported services (at no additional cost) Passive airflow is definitely a big focus on the design of this chassis, with almost every side of the case featuring ventilation of one sort of around, with the Synology logo being vented. As this system will be in operation 24×7, it is heavily reliant on the rear fans to push air effectively through the system and over the assortment of internal heatsinks as effectively as possible and this chassis does that very well indeed. The Diskstation series at the 2/4 Bay level has always done a great job of melding modern design with necessary system temperature management and the DS423+ is no exception. #5 – Supports the Whole DSM 7 Catalogue of Applications and runs them well on 2GB Memory The DS920+ NAS is something that Synology should be proud of. It is a great entry into their already impressive range of Diskstation NAS devices. If you are looking for a brand new NAS to consolidate your home media, to support your relative as the ‘IT whizz’ of the family, or move your business away from Google Drives and DropBox’ onto something safer, more scalable and dependable – then the DS920+ has alot to offer you. It gives you a great base to start using the DSM platform, as well as a good means to upgrade your storage internally at a later date (expansions in memory, expansions in storage, expansion in NVMe). If you are an existing DS918+ or DS916+ owner, this might not seem like the jump you were waiting for. Surveillance Station includes 2 free licenses. Connecting more cameras and devices requires additional licenses. Synology High Availability – Synology High Availability (SHA) combines two Synology NAS servers into one active-passive high-availability cluster, alleviating service disruptions while mirroring data.

Synology Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) – An intuitive hypervisor that supports Windows, Linux, and Virtual DSM virtual machines. Its powerful disaster recovery tools help users achieve maximum service uptime. Synology Audio Station – Manage your music collection, create personal playlists, stream them to your own devices, or share with family or friends.Synology makes numerous models of network-attached storage (NAS) enclosures, but which one would be best for you? I’ve rounded up my favorite models from the company, including an affordable enclosure and one that’s well-kitted out for running Plex Media Server. Would this be considered a good entry into synology as someone currently without any NAS? This would be a step up from the J model as far as what it can run on the DSM software is my understanding. What we said in our Review – The QNAP TS-451D2 is an interesting solution to add to the range at the tail end of 2020 for the company, sandwiched in between the launch of newer business devices and likely one of the last units in the QNAP D series. The brand has long since shaken off the reputation of being a hardware provider and light software provider, becoming something much, much even. With a huge number of first-party applications in the QNAP QuTS library (many of which are genuinely unique) as well as releasing an affordable 4-Bay NAS solution that has aimed itself at the new NAS buyer, or the NAS user who wants to spend a little now but can expand greatly later. Usable capacity for each volume will be lower than the maximum volume size and is dependent on the filesystem and the amount of system metadata stored.

All the recommended solutions support multiple drive configurations (RAID) for drive failure protection and performance enhancements

Based on internal processor benchmarks between DS923+ and the prior-gen DS920+. Actual performance may vary depending on hardware and software configuration, workload, and testing environment. Support for Both SATA and M.2 NVMe SSD Bays**: All top 4-Bay NAS drives this year feature this essential hardware capability.

After a period of relative silence from Synology regarding their plans for their 2023 series of hardware and software, we finally have confirmation that their annual event is taking place! ‘ Synology 2023 and Beyond‘ will be a globally streamed event taking place on October 27th 2022 (times listed below, depending on your region) and will cover the brand’s plans for the next year+. These events (which in the years since the pandemic first arose have made the switch to digital exclusives) will feature the successes of the 2022 period, followed by the plans by the brand to improve existing features, introduce new ones and pepper the whole thing with their intended hardware products that will roll out in the next 12 months. Many of these we already know and have featured here on NASCompares, but I am sure there will still be some surprises along the way. You can read more about the timezones for this event and my predictions HERE in the full article. Update 25/02/23– Synology is having a remarkably busy start to 2023, with several high-profile NAS solutions being introduced to the market and today we want to discuss one that many have been waiting to hear about for quite a while – The Synology DS423+ NAS. With some much of Synology’s hardware output in the last year or so feeling that they were erring more and more in the direction of business users, it is quite a breath of fresh air to hear that Synology is releasing a new desktop 4-Bay that is arguably more multimedia friendly. Serving as the followup to the summer 20202 released DS420+, this new 4-Bay is an Intel Celeron-powered compact system that (although not exactly reinventing the wheel – more on that later) is a slight shake-up of what we have come to expect from this dual-core equipped tier of the brand’s portfolio. Let’s discuss the Synology DS423+ Diskstation. For professionals transitioning from cloud services to private servers, the 4-Bay NAS market is often the preferred starting point in 2023-2024. With NAS hard drives reaching capacities of 22TB and soon 24TB, combined with enhanced redundancy features for data safety, these 4-disk servers stand out for their superior internal and external hardware. The evolution of NAS technology has significantly raised the quality of prosumer and small-business 4-Bay NAS systems, maintaining a consistent price point across different tiers. As an experienced reviewer of numerous NAS devices over the past few years, I can confidently state that the 2023-2024 period is one of the most competitive yet. The latest developments include widespread adoption of M.2 NVMe SSDs for caching and storage in all major NAS brands, the expansion of 2.5GbE networking, introduction of new processors enabling higher internal bandwidth, and the continuous enhancement of NAS software, making these devices more versatile and powerful than ever. So, let’s explore the best 4-Bay NAS drives available as we head into 2023-2024. CPU: Marvell Armada 3700 88F3720 | Drive bays: 1 | RAM: 512MB DDR4 | Features: 1x 1Gb LAN, 2x USB 3.0 Warranty of 2-3 Years, Extendable to 5 Years**: A standard warranty period with an option for extension.

Simply faster

The one and only thing I don’t like about Synology multimedia apps or drive apps…. Is they TELL you where to put your media AND GENERALLY HAVE TWO-WAY SINK AS DEFAULT Personally I am running a 918+. Even though I am not worried at all about this 7.2 update or any update soon after that from being able to be updated on my NAS … when can I assume I will be unable to install an update? What’s Synology’s history here.
