The writing is really great, with Chip Zdarsky's characteristic narration and Leonardo Romero's beautiful artwork. Couple all of that with some fantastic art from Jorge Jimenez as well as a few, somewhat bland covers from Jock and you get a very satisfying story. But with only so many pages available for a backup, I don’t feel like the story even needed this scene.

A conversation between Batman and Zur made it clear that the two personalities were now at odds with one another, and Batman would do his best to contain Zur. Being now framed for murder, this unstoppable freight train in the form of an indestructible AI machine, he must outthink himself to put an end to this chaos generated by Failsafe, a devastating force that does not hesitate to put his loved ones at risk, no matter the costs. The character designs are expressive, allowing readers to delve into the emotions and complexities of each individual.Faking the Dead: The final part of the "Two Birds, One Thorn" backup feature reveals that the Penguin had faked his death to get away from his obsession with crime and Batman and let his children take over. He was born Steve Murray but is known by his fan base as Chip Zdarsky, and occasionally Todd Diamond. Zdarsky's story also references previous stories where Batman's contingency plans puts him at odds with his friends. Yes, he's the backup personality of Batman should his mind come under attack and he wants to brutally end everything that could get in its way, but he genuinely wants to do this to bring about Bruce's desire for a peaceful Gotham and wants to do the things Bruce wants to but can't bring himself to do so.

Very much built on the ideas brought about in JLA: Tower of Babel, this highlights both Bruce's biggest strength and his biggest weakness. He meets a female burglar name Lucie who agrees to teach him after admiring his dedication and wanting Bruce to capture all of her competition in the future.The current run on Batman has done a lot to dissect how Bruce Wayne's oath to protect Gotham City has slowly worn him down over the years. However, it’s important to acknowledge that while the storytelling is undeniably engaging, there are moments when the pacing feels uneven.
