About this deal

For some reason, I don’t miss the fact that Glengoyne 18-Year-Old single malt Scotch is averse to risk-taking. In fact, now I’m wondering if this whisky might indeed be one of the few cases in which I actually appreciate chill filtration. Is such a thing possible? Got this bottle as a birthday gift and from what I've read it's to replace the 17yo bottling from glengoyne. I've never had the 17yo but from my experience with this little gem i want to get my hands on it before it runs out. IMO there isn't anything better then been gifted a bottle of whisky from a distiller you've never really payed any attention to and discovering a bottle of whisky that you love.

Glengoyne 18 year old was launched in 2012 alongside a new 15 year old. Their introductions consigned the previous 17 year old to the archives, but opened up the distillery’s age statement range further. There’s now an expansive selection of core range sherried whiskies running from 10 through to 30 years of age. Finish: very smooth, becomes malty in a very nice way. Faids on honey and dried orange peel, a hint of green tea as well and a bit of desert spice. Nose: less impressive than the 15, one again, toffee and chocolate notes, but fruitier this time: apple peels, banana, dried apricots and oranges, heavier sherry influences, but with grassy undertones and a whiff of menthol. Nice and rich nose. Notes of strawberry, raspberry, apricot and mellon. Also nice notes of spice, the spices cinnamon and cooked vinnila been prevalent. Also a sugary sweetness I like the describe as cake frosting. A sweet delusions dessert fan nose.

Finish: Medium in length, but I suspect it would be longer at 46%. No matter. That Ceylon tea note lingers on the tongue (without milk), together with some white bread toast, and mild pepper. An herbal finish flirts with honey and toffee, and then goes green at the death, with thyme and nettle.Nose: dark fruits (dates, raisins), oak, honey, red fruits, a bit of vanilla, the aroma is more gentle than one might expect. I really enjoyed the balance of Glengoyne's 10 Year Old offering, so let's see what the 18 Year Old has in store. Hopefully, it's not violent hatred.

Nose: Plenty of fresh vibrant sherry here - mandarin, nectarine, scattered dried berries and Battenberg cake (just the gentle suggestion of marzipan). Nutty biscuitiness runs throughout - gingernuts and chocolate digestives (must be afternoon tea time). Resting proves a worthwhile endeavour here - apricots, spearmint, glacier cherries and some chocolate nibs. A dash of water pronounces sugars - toffee and fudge and baked apples.
