Great listen! This has got to be one of my favorite outside sourced posts from TW of all time. It was a treat to hear these Neil needs hash it out together. And I agree 100% with the take that Human Highway Director’s Cut is a top recommendation. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot after seeing the original theatrical edition, but they really did come out with a fine film after all those years. Successful comedy depends on the editing, so it makes sense that a recut did so much for it. HH went from just a weird movie to a funny weird movie which makes all the difference! And of course Rust Never Sleeps is an all time classic, no question. They don’t take much about how the films complement each other, which I had expected from the “double feature” angle. Any thoughts on how each of these two Shakey Pictures inform the other? Spin Staff. 1988. Neil Young: Our 1988 Interview: Forever Young. Spin.com. Spin Magazine. I’m laughing at myself now… somebody recommended this album to me, and they never mentioned that it was live… I never would have guessed. The clarity and the music’s defined quality are unmatchable, and to think that somebody achieved this live, (literally) one take… That one’ll take me awhile to wrap my head around.

While Young had never been a stranger to eco-friendly lyrics, themes of environmentalist spirituality and activism became increasingly prominent in his work throughout the 1990s and 2000s, especially on Greendale (2003) [87 ] and Living with War (2006). [88 ] The trend continued on 2007's Chrome Dreams II, with lyrics exploring Young's personal eco-spirituality. [89 ] Also in 2007, Young accepted an invitation to participate in Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino, contributing his version of " Walking to New Orleans". On September 25, 2012 Young's autobiography Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream was released to critical and commercial acclaim. [115 ] Reviewing the book for the New York Times, Janet Maslin reported that Young chose to write his memoirs in 2012 for two reasons. For one, he needed to take a break from stage performances for health reasons but continue to generate income. For another, he feared the onset of dementia, considering his father's medical history and his own present condition. Maslin gives the book a higher than average grade, describing it as frank but quirky and without pathos as it delves into his relationships and his experience in parenting a child with disabilities as well as his artistic and commercial activities and associations. Rust Never Sleeps was a unique recording by Neil Young and Crazy Horse as it was an album of all new material mainly recorded live but post-produced with some studio overdubbing and most of the audience ambiance removed. This all resulted in a final product that feels at once intimate and intense. The title and overriding theme for this work was a concept for the tour which preceded its production and provided much of it’s raw material. Rust Never Sleeps acts almost like a bookmark for the end of the decade that examines the state of contemporary life and the music industry, much like Don McLean’s American Pie did at the beginning of the 1970s. Vorlage:Cite web/temporär Young's last two albums for Geffen were more conventional in genre, although they incorporated production techniques like synthesizers and echoing drums that were previously uncommon in Young's music. Young recorded 1986's Landing on Water without Crazy Horse, but reunited with the band for the subsequent year-long tour and final Geffen album, Life, which emerged in 1987. Young's album sales dwindled steadily throughout the eighties; today Life remains his all-time-least successful studio album, with an estimated four hundred thousand sales worldwide. Growing up in Santa Cruz I also knew John the drummer when he played with Corney and the Corvettes. I have many good memories of listening to those guys practicing and having a great time. I have always wondered how their lives went. RIP Jeff, you were a stand-up guy.Iris Paulsen
