About this deal

Lee Bermejo has collected some of his most stunning Batman covers and woven them together to tell a story that strikes right at the heart of the Dark Knight's never-ending crusade. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Between this parts the covers attempt to tell a story without words; and whilst it does work to begin with if you're not looking too close the seams really start to show later on. What happens when a comics art powerhouse meets one of the greatest, most exciting heroes of all time? Once more, it appears the Riddler was poking fun at that existential dread within Batman and how he'll never see success, despite trying to become the embodiment of justice.

In fact, the author teases they'll always own Gotham, and ensure that the city will make Bruce become what he hates most. On the one hand, it was a really cool to have a through line for the art, a fun and interesting way to separate the art into categories for some cohesive organization. And make no mistake, just like Paul Dano's Riddler mentally worked Batman, this story's ciphers, while simpler, do leave a trail of breadcrumbs hinting that the Riddler is behind the sinister, eerie letter again once again. It's a hard pill to swallow, given all Bruce has sacrificed and what he'll continue to give up for his war on crime. And for whoever came up with the idea of releasing his covers in an oversized format with a somewhat story attached. One part prestige art book, one part compelling noir tale, this one-of-a-kind edition collects some of Lee Bermejo’s most jaw-dropping Batman covers woven together to tell a story that strikes right at the heart of the Dark Knight’s never-ending crusade. Ultimately, it's a losing battle and a war that the Caped Crusader, despite small battles being won, will never come out on top of.

The art is the main highlight, but I’m not going to act as if it made for a more enthralling story that made sense or anything. The bit of story throw in is a fun little puzzle and perfectly paired with the gritty cover art telling the rest of the story. We all knew it was going to be (or not, if Bermejo isn’t your thing), but hey, he’s getting to do this for a reason. After all, no matter what happens, the rogues always end up back out, nodding to Joker, Penguin, Clayface, etc. Mich hatte der Band schon mit dem unfassbar genialen Cover Artwork, das mit Spotlack veredelt wurde. This whole book is a reason why he's regarded as one of the best artists in the industry and someone to pay attention to when he's announced on a Batmanproject. I liked the game with the different characters swapped for symbols so you have to figure out who’s talking to Batman throughout the book.
